Just got back from Origins 2025 and the Quick Start Guide was a big hit with the my players. The event filled up within 30 minutes of going live and I had a waiting list for openings: I could have easily run another full session. The group was composed of a retired doctor who played CT back in the days and was looking to try MG2E, and a group of friends in their 40's who get together once a year at Origins to catch up and game (a common occurrence), all new to Traveller; one of them brought his 18 year-old son who had never played RPG's. They all had a great time. The Guides worked well, and saved me from spending a lot of time explaining basic game mechanics.
The scenario was designed to teach new players all the basics of Traveller. It began with ground combat and vehicles, moved to infiltration and hacking and more combat and finally and escape with space combat.
I had run the adventure last fall at our local convention, Con-On-the-Cob, to work out the bugs; which always helps.
The rest of my time at Origins was spent running FASA's original Renegade Legion: Centurion and Lou Zocchi's Starfleet Battle Manual (the original Star Trek miniature game), the 3rd edition which I designed and wrote for him.
All and all a good week.
