Thoughts on Command

Mongoose
don't have any of the minis, and have never played a game of BFevo, so bear in mind this is all coming from a noob, so...

From what i've read i really like the idea of command units giving beneficial actions to their units. At only one HQ p/ 2000 pts [that right?] i believe this ability is balanced (when considering a HQs general low model count = main weakness). I also like that fact that unlike other wargame systems (40k, WH etc) these Hq's are not hardcore tough b******s, which is very very realistic. Great!

But does mongoose plan to produce a form of "higher-commad"? As i it appears that all HQs are led by Lieutenants, will you be able to field a Captain [4000 pts or so] with two subordinate Lieutenants??

and if so what kind of benefits [apart from extra action] could these experienced individuals bring??

cheers guys, soz if this has been discussed and answered previously.

In SST they had higher command available in the form of Captains, but nothing higher than that. I could see them doing something similar in BF:Evo...

id imagine you'd need a huge table!!

especially with tank cannon ranges, if both player agreed that tanks should start on the table "out of range", thus forcing them to advance into the battle zone.

In such a case you'd proably need a 12'x8' table, that make sense to the rest of you, if the longest canon range is 72"???

[now that would be a wicked games table]

I would say 8x6, and with plenty of terrain. If you wanted to you could say tanks started off table, or that they had to be hidden by terrain.

na, if you go big, go realllly big :D

if a US army tank company has 10 M1 abrams.... each with a 72" range.

what about half a footy field

otherwise take your models doen near forest, or beach lol

ps so if tank company = 10 m1a2, are there and how many infantry would accompy them??

well... don't know

who ever is in there area supporting them at the time? :?:

probably make no differance as he sits in his office with a cup of tea (brits/china) or a bottle of bear (usmc/german) or wine (french they like to wine) !!!

Depends on a) what sort of division we are talking about b) how they are spread out. If you are interested in large scale OOB's get micromark army lists(PM me if you want to know where to buy them). 0.8£ and contains full OOB for division. Lots and lots of different types of divisions for different countries! Myself I have 7 of them and just ordered 14 more

I'm planning on different game playing campaign with full armies on field. About 3-5 division per side. Note: DIVISIONS :D Okay scale will be 1 model=1 platoon but that's still lots of stuff. Just for example here's motor rifle regiment. Motor rifle division has 2 of these and tank regiment(which contains 2 tank battallions and 1 motor rifle battallion).

As you can see those lists also contain regimental support and also divisional support.

Very, VERY handy for getting OOB's and for 0.8£ each(you can choose which ones you want as well) they are IMO a steal.

Note that numbers are for platoons. Micromark lists also contain information down to invidual troopper count but since I need just platoon counts I left them out.

Motor rifle regiment #1:

Motor rifle battallion 1:
Bttn HQ: 1x BTR-70

Company A: 3 platoons, 3 BTR, support(HMG)+BTR, support(AT-4)+BTR

Company C: 3 platoons, 3 BTR, support(HMG)+BTR, support(AT-4)+BTR

AT platoon: 3 support(AT-4), 3 BTR

Battery: 2x82mm Vasilek on MTLB
AA platoon: 2xSA-18, BTR-70
Grenade Launcher platoon: 30mm AGS-17, BTR-70

I dunno if this would work in Evo, might be a little large.... better suited to Flames of War Modern I would say.... Or the BF:Evo / FOW mod that someone was talking about a while back.

I'm not suggesting fielding entire division in BF:evo . It isn't practical even in 6mm scale really :D

However it does provide handy structure telling what and how much each division/regiment/battallion/company has. For russian divisions it also provides nice % of tank types. Also various notes like approximation of morale and training and whatnot. What recon elements division contains, what artirelly support available. You name it.

Handy little things. I took one look at them and word "campaign" came into my mind rightaway :-)

Albeit these are best used on small models and large scale actions but I don't see why it couldn't be used with Evo scale as well as handy pointers. Especially if you aren't familiar with OOB's already.

FOW nothing.

Grab Modern Spearhead if you want to field a division or up

Generally, US Army Companies "Battlegroup" units, swapping out 1 platoon with another type, so an armour heavy company battlegroup would have 2 plats of tanks and 1 mech inf, infantry heavy would be 2 mech inf with 1 tank. They do the same thing with companies at the battalion level as well.

Not sure how the USMC does it, they may pick a unit and add a platoon of specialist vehicles to it.
