Cosmic Mongoose
I have had an entire thread deleted, no one had the decency to contact me and tell me why, it wasn't calling anyone names, it didn' swear, and the last i checked, it hadn't made anyone else call names, or swear, and was, in fact, a fairly valid point that a number of people agreed with. However, I can say I was as surprised as a not very surprised man, in national can't be surprised week.
it actually kind of validates the whole point of my thread in fact. It could come accross that the people mentioned as the "element" in the post, also have mod backing, which would be most sad, but I see little other reason to remove said post.

LOL...well I did say in that thread that MGP are permitted to delete threads if they wanted, it is their site :P

This is true, but as has been said before, it's only bleedin polite to tell someone why their thread is being deleted or why they're being given a warning.
Moderation without accountability is bad, but seems to be on the rise in recent months.

Agreed, any posts deleted should have the creator of the thread informed why. I would go as much to say, any infractions should also be dealt in a similar way. I post on the SONY Playstation forum, and posts on there are moderated. BTW, arguments on here, pale compared to the Playstation forum :)

if you want to see some real flaming try stardestroyer.net :P Or for that matter the GW forums :P

Seriously though Im one of the moderators for my local gamesclubs forum (ok so its not really particularly big forum and about 90% of the posts on there are me randomly rambling on about things but thats neither here nor there) and on the rare occasion that I HAVE had to actually lock a thread or delete a post I've ALWAYS pmed the person in question with an extensive explanation. Anything else is flat out rude and abuse of moderator powers in my oppinion.

I agree, any post or thread deletion should always have a PM explaining why. I am a member of a very heavily moderated forum, and PMs are always given, even if its just to say "Your thread is redundant, someone already posted that".

I've moderated two fora so far, and I've never taken any action without informing the mallefactor of their misdeed. I've never seen mods act without informing the wrong-doer before I came here. It's not on, really.

Last time I checked the GW forums were gone. Too much flaming and complainging..... It was a long time in coming though. The Dev teams weren't even reading it anymore, and I don't blame them.

However, as for deleted posts or threads, the are the Moderators. They do not have to provide any explanation if they don't want to. Its like asking the Umpire of a baseball game for an explanation of why he called you "out" instead of "safe". If you want to know, why not PM them and ask politely instead of airing the dirty laundry for all to see.

I feel the mods should say why something is deleted, but I also feel trhey let far too much happen on here. One particular member here I know for a fact would have been banned on the likes of Warseer, back in december for the comments and abuse he posted.

If I'm correct Hiffano, and I think I know the thread you're referring to, you're waaaaaaaay off on the "culprit"

I actually make no mention of who complained. Please re-read the post, no names were mentioned, in either post in fact, as that would be unprofessional, and create more problems. Their are enough problems on the board without wild assumtions going on.

and yes, the Mods do let too much happen on here, but that is not a debate I am willing to enter, as I am sure I would just get banned again.

If he's talking about the thread I think he's talking about then that one is easy enough to answer.

more criptic messages, I loves it I does, it's amazing how many non moderators know the actual reason the post was deleted.

Yeah, funny thing is, I read that thread right from the start, and I didn't see any reason to delete the whole thread. Yes, maybe a post or two should have been removed, but deleting the entire thing is heavy handed and totally unnecessary.

If you really want to see flaming see what happens when a member of stardestroyer.net goes to another board. I've seen some truely glorious things when SD.net members visit other boards. My personal favorite was at a comic board where somehow a pair of SD.net members caused a thread to reach 47 pages. I think it was on "Alderaan has a planetary shield" where they used two frames that had a lense flare to prove the shield's existance.
