The 2nd Edition Raider base class

Well, maybe I am a bit slow or dumb but I recently got my hands on the Freedom Station book and I was so happy to see the Raider coming back but there's something that bothers me.

The Raider gets the Weapon Proficiency (spacecraft weapons) feat for free at 1st level. But I thought there is no need for that Weapon Proficiency in 2nd Edition any more. Why doesn't the Officer (Pilot) in the core book have this feat too? I thought this feat is gone now because of the new space rules and operation (gunnery) etc pp.?

I don't know what I should do now with this feat. I hope someone can explain me if this is a mistake or I am stupid. And if its a mistake then I hope there will be an errata for it.
(I suggest to change it to another feat like veteran spacehand?)

I was so happy that this book found its way to germany an now it just confuses me. :(

It might seem odd, but I added that in so that Raider characters could then further add Weapon Focus (Starship Weaponry). By the letter of the Weapon Focus feat you can't take it unless you are "proficient in the weapon". So, although you are right in that it only takes Operations (Gunnery) to make a normal attack, I wanted Raiders to have the rest of the Weapon feat tree available to them too.

I perhaps should have been more clear. :)

Hope that helps!

Oh ok... that makes sense... A small note on that in the book could have saved me some headaches. Uhm... my english is not so good I think.

But yes I will keep that in mind but I think change it to streamline it more with the core rules. Its a bit too confusing for me, I like it simple and clear

The Raider has interlac as a bonus fluency. I have searched through my core rulebook but did not find it...

What is Interlac ?

Interlac is fully described in the first ed book Merchants, Traders and Raiders...but I'll sum it up here.

Basically Interlac is a sort of verbal Morse Code that commercial pilots and traders use to get around massive linguistic boundaries. Most trasnlators use Interlac as a standard, and many galactic travellers use it when they go exploring.

Hope that helps!

What are the rules implications with interlac ? because if it permit to speak all languages, it cancel obviously the need to put points in Linguistics or take others Fluency feats.

How about giving the raider a Free foreign language (Centauri, Narn, whatever...) Fluency Feat ?

Oh no, it doesn't speak all languages...it IS a language in and of itself. the other party would need to speak Interlac too for it to be used. It is just that it is a very common language for spacers to pick up.

I see but why there language does not appear on the Babylon 5 2nd edition core rules ?

I'm not exactly sure. Since it was not race-specific, perhaps? I'm not sure. i didn't think about reminded Gar to add it when he did up the 2nd Ed core book...which is why I made sure that it got added when I did the Raider class.
