Suppression House Rule idea

Ran a game at a local con Saturday, and found myself questioning the supression rule after an EFTF Harrier II dropped a bomb on two Technicals and a pair of Fedayeen squads.

Out of the 6 models in one of the Fedayeen squads. D8 damage dice were rolled. Results were 1,3,4,7,7,8
Three outright Kills, One out of action (Target score met), and One die applied ofr suppression only.

So then I ask myself, can these area effect dice be applied toward suppression? I believe the language used applied to shooting, but a big bomb blast will confuse/disorient just as nicely. However with the current rules governing explosive blasts, you can only apply One die per model, so a single 1 ruins your chances at suppression completely.

What I am proposing is as follows: Whenever a unit that receives damage dice from a shooting action, an explosion or other area effect, counts is damage dice as normal for purposes of suppression, (discounting 1's). However any dice meeting or exceeding a models Kill score counts as double for purposes of Suppression only.

Am I stealing someone elses idea here, or is this a terribly bad idea.

Though process on this one was mostly borne of frustration at having later received a whoopin from a noob with the Fedayeen, and the thought that walking through a pink misty cloud of three of your friends might just negate any 1's that were rolled....

New evo rule set again thread, has my own suppression ideas, i must say i never liked the 2+ for all suppression, its no right wth trained troops and milta types etc....

Evo is a good set of rules, but it needs work, well done on yout ideas

Great idea britneyfan97! I've been frustrated with that as well. I like your suggestion, it feels like it fits in with the rest of the rules; simple and effective.

Except that single explosions (as opposed to a steady, ongoing barrage) make people get up and move from where they are. As opposed to gunfire which makes people hunker down in place and keep their heads down. . . which is what suppression is simulating.

An arty strike might be a barrage, or I guess it could be a single shell, the rules are abstract on that. The point is that suppression still allows a unit to move as a reaction, they're usually just going to move into cover so it's a moot point here.

I've always been frustrated that the more troops caught in arty, the less chance you have of suppressing them. I had considered having arty act like a deployed MG, that would let it suppress squads even if it didn't hit every model, but I like using the kill stat.
