Supplements 5-6 with revised vehicle design system

Mongoose
With the Autumn/Winter release schedule having recently posted (http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/releaseschedule), the revised Supplement 5-6 is scheduled for October.

The original two books included a vehicle design system that Mongoose later "acknowledged that we have not been really happy with". (See http://forum.mongoosepublishing.com/viewtopic.php?p=682420).

This was followed with a pledge to allow players who had bought the original two books to be able to upgrade at a discounted price. So, how will this work?

Who at Mongoose Towers can provide more info? For players who have the original two books, to whom should we e-mail photos of them to as proof of perchase?

Have you heard that is how it's being done? Or is just a reasonable guess?

The current plan (now possible with the new site) is to ask people to register on the web site and send the old books in to us. We can then credit them via a 'voucher' on the site which can be used on the new book.

That is the plan. Stay tuned for more details.

Barnest: I know you like your designs you've done - like those speedy G-tanks you designed for your section... :)

I have to admit, I kinda like the vehicle rules as they are right now, but they REALLY need a spreadsheet to get the best from them... possibly moreso than the ship design rules.

I think the collector in me would like to keep my old books too... I'll have to see (not least, any money's going to be aimed towards the ACTA: SF minis... first and foremost...)

Do we get credited for the shipping costs as well? Both shipping and the cost of the box and packing materials? Even at media only rates I am still looking at $6+ in shipping costs.

Wouldn't it be better to just have us send you digital pictures with us holding our books with our ugly mugs visible? Or you guys worried there will be that many liars?

How about we hold our books open to the title page and have our signatures on those pages? That will cut cheating down to only photo shop experts.

That way we avoid shipping costs and you avoid processing, storage, and disposal costs. Which should more than off set the scammer costs.

And might actually make me think about buying the new book.

I'm not going to if I have to lose one of my favourite books I'm afraid.

Is there a lot of new content in this book? Because if there isn't, and its mostly the same old content with new design rules, how about a PDF option? Maybe have it be the one option we send in only digital pics for, keeping our old books.

As I understand this book, all I really want/need is the new design rules, and I'd be happy with just the PDF for that.

Now if there is a very significant content change (30% or more), then I'd also want a print book.

A bit wasteful in terms of P&P costs, surely? How about just ripping off the front cover and sending that? I can't imagine there are that many players who'd be happy with 2ndhand coverless versions of less-good editions who'd otherwise be buying the new 5-6.

I'd say if Mongoose is going to credit books bought, they should have those wanting the credit to rip off the covers and send those
it will be a lot cheaper to ship those than whole books
an old trick I learned while working in comic book distubution

it will ruin the resale value of the book

Personally, I plan to just keep my old ones and buy the new one. I'm just learning to like the Vehicle Design System and I made a handy Excel calculator that helps out. (REALLY not a design worksheet...there's no menu dropdowns and you have to do customization on each design, but I find it handier than a paper and pencil)
