Star Frontiers MRQ

Way back when RPG was young there was this game by TSR called Star Frontiers. It was fun and exciting. It was also a simple percentile system that would convert easily to MRQ. Yes I know that there is an internet revivalist group who do the Star frontiersman Free PDF fanzine and all that. (They do a great job too)! I just think what percentile games need right now is a good SI FI. Star Frontiers is simple, easy to pick up and already has a fan base out there. What do you all think?

This would be interesting, though I know some of the races in Star Frontiers are still the IP of WoTC (suh as the Yazirian which appeared in Spelljammer as the Hadozee) and have been subsequently used in Alternity and d20 Future. The option for sci-fi/modern in MRQ would be great though, bringing the game on par with BRP for genre versatility.

Absolutely, Definately and other positive comments. Star Frontiers was the first sci-fi rpg I bought and I still have a copy of it, it's still a flippin' good system, a good balance of skill/attribute characteristics. It's about time it got a spruce-up and re-issued!

Yeah, bring it on! :)

It was actually the second RPG I was ever introducted to and also the first scifi RPG. It was also the first RPG ever that I used to GM. Me and my group used to use play the game for many years on and off and it was a basis for many home grown systems that we used.

Starfrontiers should be quite easily RQ'd. What I loved about the original was that space combat was actually fun. You had an interactive system that may not have felt as clever as Traveller, but combined vested personal interest with grand scale.

The technology was distinctive as was the universe. I'm going to stick with the original, though, if only for sentimental reasons...

Have a look at Lightspeed (link in sig...) for all sorts of semi star frontiers fun, and check out the Star Frontieersman webzine too.

I ADORED Star Frontiers (until it was destroyed by Zebulon's Guide to Frontier Space), but yeah, it belongs to Wizards of the Coast. SO.. move along, move along!

Shame on that man for bringing a cold dose of reality into the conversation!

Indeed. No reason why we can't discuss the game on this thread. I recently bought SF/KH on ebay, since I swapped it years ago. About 1985, I think.
I know why I did it, but after a few years I regretted it because I used to play it all the time.
I had purchased Traveller, which, lets face it, is far more mature and cool looking - those little black books felt so grown up to me, and I just decided that I would never play StarFrontiers again, and so swapped it for the James Bond Rpg (a good move in its own right, I should add) and a pile of early white dwarf magazines (when it was good).
Reading it again and looking at the counters and maps, and it's like being 15 again. The boxes even had the crayons for colouring in the dice, and most of the counters were unpunched. Go ebay!

I know, I did exactly the same thing. Managed to pick up both of the main rulebooks just recently. Aah, the nostalgia! lol. Still a good, fun system!!

I had fun in the Star Frontiers setting a long time ago.

I still remember that the GM let me have Cryogrenades. When they blow up they scatter liquid nitrogen all over the blast area... Boy did I abuse those things to no end... >^_^<

Oh my, Star Frontiers?
Oh sweet nectar of gaming goodness. This is a great idea.

The key here is a fun light system. I am starting to find that "more rules" does not equal "more fun".

Make it system independent. Rules that anyone can learn in 5 mins and everything you need to learn to play can be found on a character sheet.
