Standing Together Tournament - Swindon, 8th March

Interesting choice in scenarios

First one is essentially Space Superiority, but by a different name.
Second one is Call To Arms with different deployment rules.
Third and Fourth are Modified Blocade run scenarios with different deployment rules.

It will be unusual fights, however, I would fear a Centauri/ISA fleet in the last 2 scenarios due to the speed of their ships.

I phoned in about 15 mins after Matt's post, I'm booked in, now if only Low roller will get of his behind and book in I'll have me a doubles partner.

Mind you, being Valentine's I'm sure he's otherwise occupied today

Gaargh! Why did you change the dates? I had kept the 29th clear but I don't think I can make the 8th. :(

Not a good week for ACTA.

15 minutes, you're slowing down. Getting old?

Maybe, but while once even I was young, you have always been a short arse

In my defence, I didn't even see the post until 10 mins after MAtt made it, I spent the next 5 minutes, printing and skim reading the tourney pack, the work colour laser is too slow!!!!

EDIT: ANd Low Roller signed up today as well.

hmm blockade runs for last 2 games :( thats gonna be over rather quickly for some races, especially using skirmish ships and below.
very quick games, not much fun, would have changed at least one of them to a more normal game.

With these last two games I can see a majority of players taking Centauri and ISA fleets. You get two rounds of firing at them before they can get their ships off the table. This only becomes one round when you factor in the runners get to choose where to deploy and the shorter ranges on ships in a Skirmish PL game. However, I can see the battle being an attempt to minimise the margin of victory so there should be a game to play, even if it does come down to some luck.

5 x Demos, 2 x White Star, 2 x Blue Star fleets anyone?

Although 40 ISA Flyers and 40 Minbari Flyers as a fleet has a certain appeal :) Excellent for Missions 1,3 and 4 and with it only being a Skirmish PL game, you gain a little in terms of VPs awarded on a 1VP per flight basis. Shials might be fun as blockade runners too...

Of course, I won't be taking either as I've already taken them in tourneys... choice of Narn, Psi Corps, Drazi and Vorlons at the moment for me :)

A word on the blockade games. . .

First, don't assume only Skirmish level ships will appear in fleets.

Second, remember fleets have to defend as well as attack.

Third, keep in mind how VPs are earned in these scenarios - things can swing both ways (and will, when you swap sides).

It is no good taking the ultimate blockade running fleet if you get trounced in the other three scenarios!

Either way, it will be interesting to see what tactics people come up with in this tournament, and how well they work together as a team. . .

I wasn't actually saying that the scenario is unfair to be in the pack, but it does seem to favour the attacker, particularly if they tailor their fleet to it. One thing's for sure, you need at least some ships with speed, both to attack and to counter the attackers on defence.

So, since we're back at the Mongoose offices for this tourney, who's joining the BReakfast Brigade at the Sunflower cafe just up the road from Mongoose.

I'm planning to be there about 8 am before heading to Mongoose for shopping before the tourney.

Who's with me?

Breakfast sounds good. I'll speak to the 3 other guys coming down with me from the Midlands and see if we can get their for 8ish.

I hope this place does a pucker full English
