SST Evo: Swarm Rule

Galatea

Mongoose
What does that mean?

Can ANY Bug be a unit leader?
So can 3 Bugs from one unit act as unit leaders at the same time and command all bugs 6" around them (of course no Bug can be commanded twice)?

It seems to me it effectively drops the wohle unit structure for Warrior Bugs (what isn't bad as it reflects Arachnid Group Mind even better), except building up the army list.

Basically you decide what bugs are in a unit when creating your army. Then any bug in that unit may be declared the unit leader. If it's killed, then you just choose another to be the leader next turn.

As for swarming.. Basically you have multiple units join together into a swarm. You still have units, they just act together at the same time. Like in the first movie where you see a whole mess of bugs running together into battle.

Once you're at a point where you don't want them to act together, then you declare that they're separating. Then you move each unit separately.

So in your 3 bug example, they can't be of the same starting unit and they can only command what's left of their starting unit.

Hope this Helps.

Actually it says a new Warrior may be nominated every action as leader. It also says it may command Warriors not from it's original unit.

This means Arachnid units only really matter for purposes of buying the unit. After that they can swarm all over as long as none of them take more than two actions. This could really get complex!

Horde seems to let you strech a line of warriors out instead of having them within 6' of a leader in a big mass. However it seems to need a little rewording as it says multiple units can form a horde at the start of a turn but you don't pick Arachnid units until you declare an action....

Maybe Im misreading something due to the blurrieness of the text!

The other factor is victory points..... you need to know which bugs originaly came with which unit so you can assign VPs
A unit of 15 could lose 7 models and give away no VPs. A swarm of 3X5 could lose three and start giving up VPs (as all three could be from one unit).

Actually there are no victory points in this game. That may change with the advanced rules but I doubt that as they are not printed on the cards. Until that the only way to judge victory is with shatter point.

I assume they will come with the advanced rules, as will the PLs (they were mentioned in an S&P Spot for SST Evo).
Shatter point is just a simple mission objective to keep players from bashing each other to the last model (what would be an advantage for MI as they have the shooting weapons and the jumping at the moment).
