SPI's Universe RPG

Mongoose
As an old school gamer. I ran accross an old scifi rpg from an old company taken over by TSR back in the day. It was the Universe RPG. It came out before even Star Frontiers. However, TSR shut it down when they took over so they could not have competition with Star Frontiers. I wonder, given the excellent job Mongoose did with Traveller, perhaps they could revive it.

I guess no one here is old enough to have encountered the Universe RPG by SPI.

Here see if this helps:

And, believe it or not, I do have the PDF's and the original books.

I own the Universe and Delta V. I got them from my dad's hobby store when they first came out when I was a kid.

For the RPG a rules system, character generation was sort of cumbersome, but I did like the fact that your native Environment had an impact to your skills. But the star system generation has got to be changed! While the skill improvement per skill is like BRP and Traveller New Era, it was not streamlined, with different rolls needed for each skill.

On the flavor text side, there was not too much in the "GameMaster's Guide" (funny there was never a "Player's Guide"), except as implied by the character generation. Only a little was in the adventure "Lost on Laidley". Most of the flavor was in Ares magazine IIRC.

True, but it was pretty good. And I do happen to have all the articles. Pretty much it left it up the GM to create the universe.
