Spinward Traveller. Kickstarter Coming

It would appear that Marc licensed off the (movie? film? webisode?) rights and a Traveller OTU movie is in the works. I don't know much yet except that you can find out more at this link:

https://www.facebook.com/SpinwardTraveller

And it involves Brian Lewis (from The Gamers: Dorkness Rising movie) and that the Kickstarter will be coming June 1st.

My personal opinion, is that this needs a HBO/cable series animated/computer graphics, then the actors can concentrate on their voices.

Judging from the banner at the top of their page I have a few thoughts:

Wow. Such Traveller. Very Vargr. Much doge.

Whatever that thing is, it looks just like the "much doge" meme.

If anything actually gets made (and I am extremely skeptical that anything will become of this), it'll look like a very low budget Firefly ripoff ;).

Part that makes me shake my noggin, is the fact the information states it is an investment for a pilot for a TV show. But if you make a TV show pilot what channel is gonna show it? I can see the Space and Sci-Fi channels but it will need major ad work to make it.

There are some credible(ish) movies and tv series on Youtube. Check out "Journey Quest". It's much more comedic (hopefully) than this show would be, but still pretty high quality production.

Should be interesting how they handle the seven days of jump time. It does make a great moment for reflection or character interaction or uninterrupted clue solving time.

Yes, that Ken Whitman.

I'm torn. The man and his projects suffer from an excess of high speed enthusiasm. Outrunning Marc's ability to check manuscripts and call foul just to attain a book-a-month schedule was a root cause of T4's failure.

Still, this needs to happen, and enthusiasm may be the only thing that makes it happen.

But please keep working on that Aslan make-up. Without a "Sky Captain" style lens filter (or similar stylistic overlay) the depicted make-up job is distracting in a bad way.

EDIT:

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A FEMALE ANDROID!!!

When "gynoid" becomes a better known term, maybe.

I thought she was a vargr.

Between the high ears, lack of muzzle, and the name (Eaiah Ukala, "Ay-ah-ee-ah". Bet we hear a lot of "ya-ya" instead) the goal was pretty apparent, but then I'm used to the CT look for Aslan. She isn't digitigrade, though (which would also be a problem for a Vargr). They might be able to simulate the "transitional" digitigrade Aslan legs with the right heels, but Aslan feet are not Human skinny, either.

I predict that this will be as successful as other Traveller projects done by Whitman.

I really wish this thing luck, but I cannot support it.

If they wanted to pun, I would have gone for:

"Hi, I'm Jon Ward, Captain of the stealth Trader Free Lunch; my friends call me Spin."

"My enemies refer to me as Rogue."

I would so like this to succeed.

But......

If it’s a traveller movie I would like to see a traveller movie. Something that cleaves to thirty years of depth and breadth and campaign and history and consistency.

Without that it’s a web movie that is very loosely based on Traveller. Joe public will not know the difference but if you don’t care about making it traveller why claim it is traveller.

Welcome aboard the FAR trader Beowulf. Hey guys, first clip and its going wrong.

Can I presume the Aslan Female is mentally deranged, an outcast who was considered insane because of her male mentality?

Jon Spinward. Sigh.

I would love to see this work, I was waiting for the far trader movie to work out but that failed, it would be great to see this one work but as a Traveller movie, where people who know Traveller are there to do the script and the plot in a way that makes it both entertaining AND Traveller.

Far Trader Beowulf indeed.
