Spinward Traveller. Kickstarter Coming

After the multi-million dollar trainwrecks that JJ Abrams created with Star Trek I see less problems with a 60-90K demo video to sell the idea for a more lucrative future production and not a bad start considering that little money barely pays to turn on lights or buy donuts.

I think there is a lot of sock puppetry going on here to sabotage the project, pretty much the same stuff that went on with T5. Simply put, there are some people, who hate Marc Miller, and do not play or care about Traveller, who will do anything they can to ruin it for the rest of us. Oh well, I don't know what to do, but I think people should know the truth at least.

Really?! I see no ID's that aren't known as individuals. Please point out all these so called Sock puppets.

Or, does people with honest opinions (that you don't agree with) now, = Sock puppets?

I think by sock puppet, we have people on this site making you think are fans and/or users for the game system but seem to spend far too much time criticizing every aspect of the game and any associated products. It's as if there were two people.

Generally when I see a poster with few posts, who only pops up to say yes, criticize or agree with someone else's post. Sort of like Homer Simpson trying to say something in a crowd using other voices to pretend it is more than one person, just him; that's a sock puppet.

As far as the production values of the project, they were assured to be low by the small amount of financing. No matter what, I think it is cool that someone is trying to do something, versus nobody doing anything, which is where this stands now. If somebody was to do something different, I'd support that too, but that is not an option.

We see images of 'races' in Traveller but I always thought 5000 years of humanity intermixing over 11,000 worlds is going to homogenize the gene pool. Unless certain groups go to the trouble to isolate themselves 'to preserve the race', your going to be very similar and even the Zhodani will say 'You all look alike to me.".
Humans default to staying within their cultures and races because of indoctrination or lack of any education to better govern themselves. Also, they have a short lifespan. And their knowledge dies with them. History repeats for them, a lot.

T5 had no help being ruined.

Now the thing is I LOVE Traveller and loved it for decades. I would love to see a movie or tv show really based on the universe of Traveller. Problem is this is a real niche market on many levels. Is this project actually looking for a general audience or a place on the internet for the fans? Was there a survey to see how well a general audience would accept it? Give me a Traveller web show any day and, if others see it and like it enough, we could see the finances expand to future more polished production.

There are pros and cons, the fact that it connects with an established show - Firefly, is a pro to Hollywood because that means there is less buy in for the viewer. Using the Star Trek example, it was originally sold as wagon train to the stars, and you do see a lot of stock western actors, like Deforest Kelly. Another pro is that is if there is interest, and it gets made, it shows there is enough interest to make it, and to continue making it; even as a web series. Probably the biggest con as far as any large backers are concerned is that somebody else owns it, and if they will sell the rights; using Star Trek as another example, it is owned by CBS and Paramount; they don't have anyone else's interests to consider when they make a movie or TV program.

I love Traveller as well, it is a cool game to blow off some steam every once in awhile, transport to a different world, or worlds; adventure in the far future. 8)

True. T5 was something many, myself & friends included, were excited about. Marc, for what ever reason, decided on his own to sabotage it. :|

Just to balance then get on with things.

I have T5 and have no real issue with it. I have yet to see what all the venom is for T5 except it seems the same negativity exists that I have experienced with every edition including Mongoose. It's a great addition to the Traveller stable with grand detailing as opposed to the equally useful K.I.S.S. path for Mongoose. Both get brought out, as do other Traveller editions, as I find need. You can't go wrong with either edition.

Now back to our movie in progress.

Not sure I'd go *that* far. Every edition has its warts.

Indeed.

Because the news of the KS and show is coming to this board second-hand, a detail that may have been lost is that the "trailer" is more test footage and concepting than finished product. If nothing else, the more useful feedback has hopefully convinced the producers that they need to raise their game a bit. Or a lot.

I'm not at all convinced that Aslan or Vargr are a good idea on a shoe-string budget, but the only "head-piece" MHR the Marches give access to is the Darrians, who would just look like golden-skinned Vulcans...

I would also prefer the Zhodani display psi use more like Deanna Troy and less like Emperor Palpatine. Which is to say, "Psionic? Me?" Cheaper special effects budget, for one.

I like Samantha Swords, she sort of has that Lucy Lawless vibe going, which is pretty cool. She even won a sword fighting competition; here is her facebook:

I'm amused that they found a woman the right height for a Zhodani.

It would be hilarious, in a future episode, if they could actually bring in LL as her mother for a guest appearance.

I thought they were blue skinned?

Looks like I need to pick up that Darrian supplement... as well as the Zhodani one as well... (I didn't know they were supposed to be that tall  you learn some thing new every day... here! )

Zhodani average about 20cm taller than Imperial humans with a slimmer frame probably adding to a tall image.

Darrians are also in the 2m range and their skin is golden or greyish-tan wit white to light-colored hair. Damned elves. Where are the space dwarves?
