Someone rolled high on a D10

Well, it wouldn't take a genius to figure out that a burning tank or a tank that stops movie means your weapon actually work.

Good to hear that the driver is only injured and is undergoing further treatment though. Beats the alternative by a mile at least.

Of course posting these finding by the fools in the media, just will make more attacks likely. :x

yeah we should pretend that we never suffer casualties, convince them westerners are all immortal............ :?

Well, they thought for the longest time that US Soldiers were robots because of the mirrored shades..

And that we had A/C underwear.

no but us forces and soon uk forces have these wrap things that go on the ncy that drop the body temperatur down on the main artery, efectivly acting as AC

as for he amount of drills and patience our guys have, the brit/us force are like robots in efficiency compared to the norm.

i recon that roadside bomb was that bledy 2D10 thing the fedyen carry, made a mess of a few of my tanks so far.

I know you dislike me, but you don't have to act like a arse.

I believe many lives and lengths of wars could be saved and shortened, if there was a censorship of the media during wartime. After the war is over, then they can print the details but not during.

I agree with you to a point. The tactic of embeded reporters doesn't really work given the modern media, it also doesn't help when the war being fought is seen as imoral by more than a satisticaly insignificant few.

However in this case I am sure that the fact that they managed to seriously hurt a challie will already have made the rounds on the insurgents grape vine. After all it was a carefully planned ambush by the accounts I have read and it did happen over 2 weeks ago now.

Once the event is no longer secret the worst thing that our goverment and military could try and do is keep it secret from the public, if they had tried and been found out it would have had a far worse effect, than them releasing the news in a controlled manner.

holy crap Old soldier! what makes you think I don't like you!?

I didn't agree with your statement that's all!

It reminds me of those I heard criticising Hollywood for 9/11 saying had "Executive Decision" never been made then Bin laden wouldn't have gotten the idea.

I think it's very naive to think that insurgents in iraq won't know first-hand just how effective their weapons are, they don't get their battlefield info from BBC

Its probably as naive to think that they would. Depending on the type of weapon used the attackers themselves could be quite remote from the scene of the incident. They may not have been present at all. There's a big difference in estimating weapon effects and having your estimates confirmed. The Falklands campaign in 1982 was a case where sloppy release of information to and via the Press could have resulted in far higher casualties than were actually sustained.

As an aside I recall reading about a complaint received by the Editor of the Times during the war in the Crimea. Apparently a map published in the Times showed the incorrect locations of British and French troop dispositions. The complaint was received from the Russians, the belief being (probably bourne out form previous experience) that if something was published in the Times then it must be true!

The report I saw on the BBC last night said the bomb went off during an ambush, there where insurgents attacking at the same time so I assume they saw what actually happened.

I think what we are driving at, is if this had not been reported, only those local insurgents would know if they were successful. Instead the whole world knows they were, and thus it enboldens them to step up attacks. Not just locally but in other locations.

The Media has become a tool of the insurgents. Either overtly or covertly. Thus I believe the Media, and those politicans that play into it with stupid statements during wartime have the blood of brave men on their hands.

What I am driving at is that local insurgents talk to other insurgents, they all have access to the internet and mobile phones and all the wonders of modern comunication that we take for granted here in the west. I believe its niave to think otherwise.

I personally think that when the media tells an uncomfortable truth its probably better that they do, rather than try and cover it up such as what happened at Abu Ghraib. Which irrespective of whether we in the West knew about it or not was common knowledge in Iraq, it was only when the Western Public found out about it that steps where taken to stop it. The same applies in reverse with stories like this, if we had been lied to then the backlash would have been worse here.

if you can speak arabic, youd be amaked the sites you can find on google, for the west they are banned, but if you can type arabic web adreses you can find everything from how to make bombs to refining drugs, i only know this as a friend of mine is doing arabaic at university, basicly she said, the alphabet the westerns use (latin i think) and japaniese use will find you a million porn sites and send you a million porn spam emails, in the same respect arabic email addys get spam mails on how to make bombs or sell drugs abroad, and the same for sites, were we have porn they have a constant shove down the throat with sites focused on islam and bombing.

the only evidence i saw was the sites she showed me, text i took her word but the pictures were the type westerners would be shocked to find on the public internet, of dead foriegn soldiers and mutilations.

i think this news cast has been sat on for a while, as the guy lost a leg but id recovering and not in a critical stage no more, mybe they released the news publicly befor we got a handed down version from arabic news as a damage limitation excersize.
