Solomani Confederation (Military)

Confederation Navy: Fokker Cheep Ultralite Transport Craft

1. Five tonne non-gravitated, dispersed, light hull configuration; hull points

2. Forty six and seven eighth kilostarbux.

3. We need a manoeuvre drive greater than factor/one, if only to prevent burn up on atmospheric reentry, and some form of motivation, while down there.

4. Since most commercial vessels seem happy with two, we won't need more than three.

5. Especially, since a full extra gee will still give us hypersonic speed.

6. So technological level ten it is.

7. Three percent being one hundred fifty kilogrammes, one and a half power points at three hundred kilostarbux, default.

8. Budget it to two and a quarter hundred kilostarbux, and increase energy requirement to one and four fifths power points.

9. Quarter power point for minimum basics, total requirement would be two and one twentieth power points for a three gee ride.

Confederation Navy: Fokker Cheep Ultralite Transport Craft

A. You can't make the chassis lighter, so five tonnes is the minimum volume.

B. You could make it cheaper by fifty seven percent, but you sacrifice twenty percent of the volume.

C. This doesn't matter that much at fifty tonnes, but you have to deal with minimum sized components and humans as payload.

D. It's pretty obvious I was thinking of the jeep.

E. And how cheap I could make it.

F. Benchmark would be the air/raft.

Confederation Navy: Fokker Cheep Ultralite Transport Craft

G. I think we'd have to divide the manoeuvre drive into three separate modules.

H. We'd fan the modules out at one hundred eighty degrees downwards, ninety degrees backwards, and one in between at one hundred thirty five degrees diagonal.

I. Downwards facing would be used to neutralize gravity.

J. Backwards facing would be utilized as thrust.

K. The diagonal would be vectored, to either provide additional lift or thrust, depending on the local gravitational field.

Confederation Navy: Fokker Cheep Ultralite Transport Craft

L. Since the Confederation Navy was kickstarted at technological level twelve, they procured standard fusion reactors, and didn't bother with early fusion.

M. Exceptionally, the technological level six prefusion colonial cooker, since it was rather ubiquitous, and presumably, fool proof.

N. That gave an option to install two colonial cookers or standard stoves to provide onboard power.

O. The gas guzzler and the gas generator have rather niche uses.

P. And aren't compatible with the Cheep.

Confederation Navy: Fokker Cheep Ultralite Transport Craft

Q. Chemical power plants tend to be more compatible with rockets.

R. That's because the rockets consume so much fuel, that of the chemical power plant would be inconsequential.

S. That means, rather short endurance.

T. The Cheep is meant to be, by accident, the primary people pusher in the Confederation Navy.

U. And light delivery van.

Confederation Navy: Fokker Cheep Ultralite Transport Craft

V. Problem with rockets is atmospheric reentry, and short duration.

W. The Cheep is meant for general transport, so reequipping it with rockets eats into cargo capacity and endurance.

X. You need endurance in space.

Y. And you need overpriced heatshields if transitting through the Karman line.

Z. So, I think I count four specific use cases for rockets.

Confederation Navy: Fokker Cheep Ultralite Transport Craft

1. Hybrid afterburner, to get somewhere faster.

2. Intercontinental travel.

3. Rocket fighter.

4. Take off booster.

5. Considering that the Cheep is a dispersed configuration, rocket powered intercontinental travel on a non streamlined hull seems inadvisable.

6. Even with heat shielding, rocket powered atmospheric reentry for a non streamlined hull moves up to foolhardy.

7. Rocket fighter might be possible.

8. After one and a half tonne cockpit, balance is three and a half tonnes.

9. That's seventy percent for power plant, rockets, fuel tank, and weapon loadout.

A. A take off booster seems an unnecessary expense.

B. Sure, it provides that extra lift, or at least explains why manoeuvre drive factor/one spacecraft can lift off from Terran gravity standard gravity wells.

C. If we don't fractionalize it, that's still twice the volume taken up the manoeuvre drive, plus fuel consumption.

D. We could add on a fraction to the manoeuvre drive, say twenty percent, which gives a similar boost, one fifth more volume, and costs the same as the rocket booster.

E. Getting to orbit will take longer, but you aren't burning additional fuel, or fractionally so, for little practical difference.

F. Default technological level would be ten.

Confederation Navy: Fokker Cheep Ultralite Transport Craft

G. There's always intracontinental travel, or regional.

H. I'd stick to subsonic, or a megametre per hour.

I. Considering non streamlined

J. That could a rocket engine factor/one and a quarter, which should be enough for Mach/one.

K. Considering hypersonic is Mach/five plus.

Confederation Navy: Fokker Cheep Ultralite Transport Craft

L. You could set up a reactionary rocket factor/sixteen, and add another reactionary rocket factor/sixteen as afterburner.

M. That would be thirty two gravities of acceleration, if only for a turn.

N. Without inertial compensation, pretty certain that the human pilot isekaied as a slime.

O. To be fair, not sure a human can take sustained factor/sixteen acceleration.

P. At factor/eleven, you already have to check every minute; you also lose one point of endurance, permanently, if you fail the roll.

Confederation Navy: Fokker Cheep Ultralite Transport Craft

Q. As I recall, the acceleration seat supposedly neutralizes one point of acceleration.

R. Currently, the gravity suit can neutralize one to two points.

S. It's possible, that it's either/or.

T. And then, you have drugs.

U.

Confederation Navy: Fokker Cheep Ultralite Transport Craft

V. The issue with drugs is, overdosing.

W. One dose incurs no penalty within the given time frame, but two starts to.

X. And fighter pilots are going to find themselves hitting those odds regularly.

Y. And if you actually, regularly, need to over accelerate to succeed in your mission, something is seriously wrong.

Z. Though daredevils, like some Vargr, might actually enjoy it.

1. It's quite possible that civilian ships aren't allowed to accelerate uncompensated for more than two factors.

2. If they accelerate over one and two fifths gravities, you might need to issue a gravitational suit to each passenger.

3. Since two fifths above Terran standard seem to be digestible for a human.

4. Since an advanced gravity suit neutralizes two factors, most military vessels might stick to uncompensated acceleration factor/three.

5. Conveniently, technological level seven allows access to factor/three reactionary rockets.

6. And adding another reactionary rocket as afterburner, you suddenly can accelerate to factor/six, at the same fuel consumption rate.

7. Technological level eight allows access directly to factor/six reactionary rockets.

8. Advanced gravity suit drops perceived acceleration to four, which requires a check every minute.

9. Plus a drug dose makes that perceived acceleration factor/three, with a check every six minutes.

A. One problem with reactionary rockets is the elephant in the room.

B. That elephant is very thirsty, and doubled in volume from the previous generation.

C. Which means that one possible advantage, less volume, is defenestrated.

D. Without Czeching.

E. Or Russhing to conclusions.

F. So that you'd want the primary means of propulsion to be the manoeuvre drive.

Going by Aliens, ground forces, or specifically the veteran ones, are either specialists who happen to be trained as riflemen, or riflemen that take up a specialty.

These aren't Special Forces, where cross training takes place, to ensure redundancy.

If I had to describe it, I'd say compression, in that the minimum number of troopers have the maximum number of skills between them.

The essentials for a CAVALRY trooper would be protocol/military (who to salute), gun combat (shoot straight), and drive (mobility), since they were intended for dirtside reconnaissance; minimum qualification for C1 Trooper.

And, enlistment is open to any Confederation citizen who is physically and mentally competent.

Then, unit integration and combined arms training.

Specialists are attached.

Practically, if you're in the military, you should have athletics.

Since what you have are mounted infantry, it becomes optional.

Redundancy would be having more personnel capacity for the vehicles, in case of loss, so that those whose transport is no longer mobile, can find seating in other vehicles.

Since deployment should either be as a troop, or detached section (reinforced patrol), you'd only need one medic per tactical troop.
