So, DW Bestiary?

It appeared at Dragonmeet yesterday but was sold out in 45 mins. I couldn't make it but luckily a mate of mine had the foresight to get there early and make the Bestiary his priority..he also picked me up a copy. Apparently, the book is quite slim...a 1/3 the size of the rulebook...but the art is fantastic. Just have to wait until I see him now...

I have really mixed feelings about the DW Bestiary. It is well done, add many interesting information on critters. On his own, it could be a great bestiary, BUT:
- Most of the illustration are already found in the main book
- Most of the monsters are already found in the main book (just adding background information on them)
- and it's 25$ for 88p, black and white, soft cover.

Of course, there are new monsters, but I think that paying this price for reused information, in such a small book, is really bad. On the other side, the main book is really good value.

For the campaign, I may stick with my all DW books (even if they are in french) unless there is a real added value for 25$.

So, are some monsters actually in the core book? Does anyone have an index of which creatures there are?

Thanks,
Antonio
You must have around 50 monsters in the core book (I don't have the book in front of me, but it must be around that number). They come with complete stats and a little paragraph to explain what they are.
These monsters are then again in the bestiary with additional background and ecology information.

Thanks! I was worried that the bestiary was actually needed, but even with reduced info, I guess I can live.
The Bestiary is a good book that provide many information on critters and thus gives a lot of adventure hooks or at least encounter ideas. But it is really too pricy for what it's worth. At 15$ I would advise everybody to buy it, not at 25$.
And yes, as many of the monsters are 'classical' (even if a little twisted sometimes), the paragraph of description is often good enough.
