oh yeah and another thing!

has or will that nice chap Chernobyl be redoing the stat cards for the new rules?

thanks again.

There is a new book coming - Powers & Principalities.

It will include several new variants, some new options for every fleet, revised station rules, new unique admirals and new scenarios.

Matt has opened up the draft rules for playtest and discussion.

You've got an extra "r" somewhere in that sentence... and it ain't the one in "rules" ;)

No. Everyone seems to have a problem with at least 1 rule or another.

Currently, I believe the WS nerf and the Super Space Stations are the most hated.
But every proposed rule has someone irked.

Thing is they arnt rules yet, there for "play testing".

Means we get to have a say at what works and what doesnt, make a report throw in a few ideas and we see what comes out of it in the next version of playtest rules!

er not sure its quite that bad?

Minbari "Web of death" seems OK with us all, as does the new Demos reduction .........

I believe the shadow updates and the most honoured. The new Force allocation breakdown makes me want more options as a fleet.

I would agree, while there are definitely issues, it seems an advance.

Issue rules -

Narn CBD (fixes the wrong issue... damage points vs increase crits)
Centauri Wolf Pack (just busted what we fixed with the Demos)
ISA Whitestar fix (encourages wrong tactic)
Drazi Attack Run (issue here is confirm rolls)
TTT - (design question... is this an increase in opportunity fire, a la half AD in extended arc if no bore target at time of fire, or more a way of guaranteeing a shot at one ship?)
League vs AoL - (don't invalidate folks collections vs need to pay for flexibility)
Vree extractor beams - (new rule vs very low levels of crew on some ships)

Pure good stuff -

Demos fix (good)
FAP fix (looks good for everyone except Drazi)
Bimith fix (depends on mine rules for if its enough)
Abbai boost (exact numbers on shield boost)
Raider boost (perhaps no custom on league allies ships)
Psi corp boost (more consistent shadow tech, better Arm hull & SO maybe)

There is a bit more, but the reality is that we have some good stuff, just arguing over the specifics while we have the chance, as once the book comes out your stuck. A bit like the November elections... all kinds of bile up til the guy wins... then it's get back to work and planning the new bile for two years down the road.

You left out that the G'Quan still sucks...

*Hindsight's whining for day* <- Check!

doesnt suck, 1AD less beam than omega plus e-mine and new narn CBD and having 17 more damage = g'quan wins in g'quan/omega battle.

well its 1Ad less at the front (no beam compare at the back) the emine is ok but one shot and it loses out otherwise..........

by having Narn (ie crap) range guns, lesser fighters, no interceptors, no minibeams that ignore hull and interceptors...........

glad I play a proper race

Does it it compare well to the Omega?
Less beam
Lower range on the secondary guns - especially at the front
less fighters
worse fighters
no hull-beating, interceptor-beating, mini-beams
no rear beam
less antifighter
no interceptors

More damage
energy mine (which will barely scratch the Omega)
more AD on the secondaries
more troops

My money is on the Omega.

yes it has less fighters and less antifighter and no interceptors but lets be honest in a fight between the 2 its all about beams for a long time and therefore the interceptors wont get used whereas CBD will alot more in which case the 1 extra die of beam doesnt make up for 4+ saves and 17 more damage.

lower range? ok the omega gets one shot with secondaries before the g'quan getes into range of its own massed banks then it has more AD than the omega.

less fighters? yes but then as you say the e-mine wont barely scratch the omega (average 6 damage) but you could use it on the fighters instead if you wish. or take the 6 damage.

the mini-beams on the omega are slow loading and only if it becomes a flank battle and interceptors beating doesnt matter as the g'quan doesnt have them. g'quan still has 16AD in the flanks.

no rear beam? this is true but if the battle goes on that long the omega pissing around with its rear beam whilst the g'quan is turning to get its now superior beam back into arc.

the main point though is 1AD of beam doesnt beat a 4+ save and 17 more damage. that one AD will take against a CBD g'quan 17 turns just to get that extra damage on average.

average beaming as approach: omega 6 hits, 12 damage, 6 CBD'd so 6 total plus a crit.
g'quan 5 hits, 10 damage, 3 CBD'd so 7 total and maybe a crit.
omega is causing less per turn and has less damage to start with.

and lets not forget the g'quan has a tighter turning circle.

If you take into consideration the 4+ CBD rule the G'Quan will win.
BUT as the majority of you say.
"You should never just compared 2 ships on a equal point level"
I dunno why people say it but meh

For example compare Sharlin to G'Vrahn, which is better?

Fighting each other 1v1, the G'Vrahn will win init half the time, so will only get to fire its boresight half the time. Sharlin's stealth 5+ will never be reduced by other ships hitting, will be 20"+ at the start of the game assuming an empty board, G'Vrahn isn't fast enough to get within 8". So G'Vrahn will be trying to get stealth rolls of 5 (or 6) for most of the battle. Sure some e-mines will hit, but 6AD AP will get 3 hits, thats 9 damage every other turn. Even on CBD the G'Vrahn will be critted to death. So the Sharlin will quite easily win most of the time. Conclusion: G'Vrahn is broken!!11!!1

Thats why people say you can't compare 1v1!

the reason we compare the g'quan and the omega is they fill similar roles within their fleets. the g'quan has slightly less primary firepower but is generally more survivable.
fighting minbari which would you rather have? a g'quan or an omega? i know which one there.
fighting centauri though its the opposite. both ships have their strengths and weaknesses but the g'quan certainly is not a bad ship and I like using them.
