Sleeping in Light live battle reports

First Blood!

Paul's Drakh cruiser got knocked out and, from my vantage point, it looked as though LBH's Tara'Lin delivered the killing shot!

And Simon's Tinashi was taken out in return!

All this in the first turn, and now jump points are opening on both tables. . .

Well I assume with the sheer amount of high power beams around thats to be expected!

how are they working out Iniative?

:D

Right, sit-rep on the last round.

It hasn't gone well for the forces of Order.

Right now, Greg's Queen Gaim (the last remaining Order ship), is being surrounded by a Shadow Omega, a White Star Carrier, and a Stalker - and Triggy is waiting in hyperspace with a Basestar.

Not the best of odds. . .

Chaos won :)

And there was much frivolity.

Tristan won more games than anyone else, though many were hot on his tail. Greg was the undisputed Hero of Order. LBH bravely won no games in the entire weekend. . .

I'll let the particpants take it from here now, just as soon as they get back home!

Stealing LBH's thunder - would like to point out that the Drakh ship which was destroyed had only two crew left from my opening (and final as it turned out) triple damage beamage!!

Good weekend though - the Minbari Federation has decided to follow the path of chaos!

After the spanking the forces of order got this weekend, time we all joined the side of chaos.

Good weekend though, pity it was the last one, although Matt did hint at ACTA coming back soom, just not B5.

Anyway time to find somewhere to place Claudia :D

This is how my games went:

Round 1 vs Paul.

My Gaim valiantly boarded Pauls Heavy Cruiser and captured it. A withdrawl would guarantee me a win. Reinforcements showed up in the shape of one of Ken's whitestars and blew up my Queen before it could exit a jump point. I was not best pleased.

Round 2 vs Triggy

I was extremely lucky early on, getting vital weapon crits on 2 of triggy's 3 Vree ships. Two enemy battle level reinforcements showed up and I trounced them, in a very tense game.

Round 3 vs Ben

This was the convoy run. It was essentially unwinable for ben, who had one shadow scout. There was no way to kill my Gain convoy/queen. Matt altered the rules half way through, allowing a withdrawl to end the game. So Ben now stood a chance. He had only to kill one of my escorting ships and withdraw to win. Unfortunately he could only get at my raid level assault ship which was intercepting almost everything he threw at it. On the flip side, I couldn't kill his scout.

Round 4 vs Digger

Towering Inferno is a pain, but both Digger and I were getting ships on fairly evenly. Digger is a gentlemen and always enjoyable to play against. This was the only time I got reinforced in my favour and the Tigara in the last couple of turns didn't quite swing things in my favour. Digger was 1 point away from crippling my queen ship and would have turned our draw into a win.

I had a lot of fun trying to board his G'Quan and being beaten back by Narn armed with raid.

Round 5 vs Burger

Order were indeed on the back foot. Burger's Shadow scouts attacked my war-level queen, while I tried to catch up with the other half of my fleet. He destroyed it just as the second half of his fleet arrived. I succeeded in destroying two shadow scouts.

Round 6 vs Richard Carr

Gaim vs Gaim. We had very similar fleets. While Richard charged with his gunships and assault ships, I was a little more cautios, using blast doors. The ship battle began to swing in my favour while he was winning the fighter war, with judicious e-mining and dogfighting. However the fighters never really played a big part in winning the game. I destroyed his raid-level queen on the last turn, swinging the game firmly in my favour. If we hadn't run out of time, I would have had a shadow omega arriving in my rear and likely destroying on of my big queen ships.

Round 7 The Free for all

I began along side Simon's Tinashi, LBH's Tara'lin, and Sharkaan. WE targeted Paul's Drakh cruiser and Ben's Shadow. We had worked out that my Gaim would drop the shadow ship's shield with emines and LBH would beam it, hoping for a pin. Things went well with simon scoring a tripple damage 6,5 crit on paul's Drakh, and LBH finishing it off. LBH then fired his front beams at the Shadow Omega! And succeeding in knocking down its shields.

They say plans don't survive contact with the enemy. Or in this case allies either.

-----
I had a lot of fun. And I got to play Triggy, Digger, Burger, Richard and Ben who are great people to play.

I was disapointed to be on the side of order, since I would have been best against Minbari and ISA. And all the Minbari were on the side of order. And my worst foes were shadows.

Plus LBH was a bit of a handicap.

Okay, now I am scratching my head, trying to work out how you did that :)

yet LBH still managed to lose ;)

To be fair, he wasn't the only one!

My dice hate me

Everything, and I mean _everything_ for Sleeping in Light was pre-written.

Next time can you wirte me in the odd beam roll higher than a 3?

msprange said:
I think LBH needs a hug right now, as he is facing Gaim again with his ISA, and he is not too confident, despite him bringing the Tara'Lin to the table. . .

My second "Gaim" of the tourney, and 3rd ever, all against the same player, Richard Carr IIRC, but I don't hate the player, I hate the Gaim.

LBH is having a seriously Bad Dice Day. . .

Day....Weekend....Life, it's all the same.

sounds good - any other highlights!? :D

Is LBH having a better day?

How to put it? .......... no!

Da Boss said:
oh dear - he is playing Kens ISA - that could be brutal if Ken is on form  and he usually is.

Yes, Kenny won, but was no doubt still robbed, and put to a VP win by LBH, the new mantra of Sunday.

No bonuses, except for Command.

LBH has just got 12 dice on a Beam - says it is the most he has got all weekend. . . combined!

Sad, but True, which sucks on what is basically an all Beam fleet. An unbelievable cry was heard when the 12th hit rolled true from a 4AD BEam weapon on my Tara'Lin "I need more dice", Kenny was quick to supply a d1 (Or it might as well have been)

You shall not deny me my big kill, it may only have been 2 Crew, but it was 2 crew you failed to kill. I dunno, you want a job done right.....don't give it to LBH (Except in this case)

Was I so bad you had to post twice?

That was my biggest error (See my above comment without the exception this time), in my malfunctioning caffeine induced state I forgot that the original plan to shoot the Shadow Omega had been amended, however since I only scored 10 damge which were absorbed by shields, on the Omega, I wouldn't have hurt the Shadow significantly anyway.

Had fun, more on Sunday than on Saturday despite my continuingly cursed dice, played lots of people, lost all my games, made less errors in the entire 7 game weekend than I usually make in one game turn. So all in all despite the net effect of my ACTA career being to go from 2nd last to last, I feel good. My dice failed me, as seems to be their role in my life.

I held off Kenny to a VP win (somethign he repeatedly tried to proptest against, usually by resorting to counting the massive VP difference, which simply cemented the case for the prosecution  ), and if Digger had stood and fought rather than running I'd have won that one too.

Looking forward to any future tourneys that we manage to organise. I may even paint minis for them.

My thanks to all, and especially neko for the lift
though not the comment:

LBH has a skill for it. ;)

Curse, the word is curse

And I have also discovered Dark Matter today, as my load of goodies home was far heavier than all the things I that existed on my person, how strange.

OK, I'm done for noe, I'm tired, and I forgot to set the VCR to Long Play so I only got the first 15 minutes of the F1, nice crash BTW, so I'm miffed. You may now resume the slagging of LBH, try to be good natured, or at least not gratuitously cruel

Funniest moment was me, Kenny and Diesel dicing off for who got the honour of destroying LBH ;)

No, the funniest moment was when Greg asked if he could roll for the honour(Despite being on my team), only stopped by the fact that he only had normal Jump Engines and couldn't fire that turn

LBH

Ok you killed it - forgot to mention tho I also knocked out the GEG...with my battle level ship...which was subsequently annihilated.

Yeah, all that and you still couldn't do a mere 2 more Crew loss? If you're only gonna do half a job..... To be fair given my rolls against the Shadow Omega, if you hadn't done all that work, I'd barely have scratched the paint on the Drakh.

LBH

Actaully the funniest thing was probably Greg's response when he realised you hadn't targeted the Shadow War level ship whose shields he lowered for you! He was not a happy bug man.

Ahh but that led to his demand for fratricidal mayhem.

It's like Lennier's one line "Woo-hoo!?" is the funniest, but not without the setup

Of course the 5 hits which inpacted on the shields of the Shaodw Omega may have got crits against the unshielded Shadow Ship and hence pinned it............. :D
