Thanks Matt

You folks at Mongoose always do the right thing whether the error was yourfault or not. That makes you a special company in my eyes. The love and attention you have given the Conan RPG is quite apparent and you have done an outstanding job with it.

Well, this all seems to be working out okay now.It sounds like a new map is on it's way. I think I will still pick up the boxed set here locally. The writing seems well done from what other posts say and well researched. It seems hard to get this stuff locally from my local store, something about local supplier or something like that they tell me.
Meanwhile a friend of mine in Kitchner/Waterloo Ontario can pick the stuff up no problem. Maybe I will order it from Coles or this site. How long does delivery take to Canada anyway from Mongoose Press? Anyone know?

I can't speak for Mongoose specifically, but other stuff I order from the UK to Toronto usually takes about a week without paying to expedite.

Gah! It's not an incorrect map, it's a STOLEN map! How hard is this for everybody to get? Mongoose have been stiffed by a freelance employee who they trusted and who did great work on the main Hyboria maps and the Lone Wolf stuff. Why on earth wouldn't they trust him? He didn't have atrack record for this, or do you think they employ a psychic to look out for stuff like this.

Stolen/Incorrect, the point is we DON'T have a map of Shadizar, which was what was advertised and part of the sale. I understand it's the hack artist's fault, but Mongoose has to have some quality control. Maybe scan the map for the writer to glimpse before going to production. I dunno.

I'm glad a new map is forthcoming. For the record, I'd rather mail away for a nice, large, quality new one, then have to print a map out.

(this was gonna get caught sooner or later, I mean on the Zamora map there's next to no water in/around shadizar)

Can you not understand that you DO have a map of Shadizar? It's one that the artist misappropriated and passed off as his own, but it's still currently Shadizar. The fact that they approved the look of the submitted map means they were happy with it. What they didn't know was they were being conned, and that's because...wait for it...they are actually just human beings like the rest of us.

It is I, the thief of Shadizar. With my genius intellect and swift fingers, I swapped the real Shadizar map with an inferior map. My dastardly plan would have succeeded unoticed, if not that vile Warhoonslayer had not made his spot check.

Warhoonslayer, if I ever see you around Shadizar, I shall gut you, wrap your intrails around your neck and take your heart to the masters of Shadizar.

Hi guys,

Well, you can imagine my feelings towards the artist - heads are going to roll. . .

Onto more jolly matters, we are commissioning a new Shadizar map. I'll make an announcement when it is ready and you will either be able to download it or send in your old map and we'll post you a brand spanking new one :)

Oh, and BTW, there is water in Shadizar :)

You guys Rock! Your support for this line is outstanding! I'm sure the new map will be much better than the old one. Cheers!

This is so petty, and stupid. I can't believe there are some people who are whining and moaning about a stupid map. Or bitch about spending $40 and scream that the map isn't Shadizar. Who cares! Did you spend $40 for the stupid MAP?

It's a city supplement. It's therefore based around the map of the city. And the map is too stupid for words.

I know not to waste my money on the boxed set now.

Splendid Matt, that's exactly what I wanted to hear. Thanks again!

Actually it's based around three books with a supporting map of the city which ISN'T stupid, it's stolen, and by the artist, not Mongoose. Is this all too much for you to comprehend or do you just like to hear the sound of your own daft moaning? The guys who have seen the set say the books are excellent and well written. Doesn't that ring any bells with you at all?

Absolutely, the books are excellent.
Mongoose always do the decent thing by their customers so the hysterical tone of some of the whining about this issue has been deeply depressing.

I really think you are missing the point. I always assumed Mongoose would rectify the situation. I'm just pretty surprised that the nowhere in the process was the map approved by someone who had good understanding of the materials presented in the book.

It's also suprising that no-one else who bought the boxed set, including those who posted some reviews of it, noticed either!

The first thing I did upon opening the set was to inventory the contents.

My next thought went something like this:
"Cool, counters, some little plans, and a map. Well, they can all go back into the box until the day I need them.", at which time I proceeded to start reading the books. I haven't finished the books yet, and the map didn't even get a second look until I saw this thread... :)

How can a map be to stupid for words? Or are you saying that map can't speak, because it is too stupid for words?

I say again, the map is excellent for dart practice, just like most maps are. Once I buy my dartboard, I'll take down my maps.

Perhaps I am, probably because of the way I view the whole Conan system - as a tool to help me produce my interpretation of Hyboria. Vincent's done a great job with the books, there's a great deal I'll use but it's not completely my Hyboria. I appreciate the leeway given for people to use the material as they see fit - to that end the physical description in terms of geographical features are quite vague. I can't see that anyone checking the map against the text would have a great deal to draw their attention to the fact that the map was presented under false pretences.
For myself, any map would be chrome, I prefer to use my own imagination to create such things, the map would have had to have been something very special for me to have used it straight.
Whilst I accept that some people may be disappointed, I find many of the comments very poorly considered.

I say when you buy a product and spend good money on it and shot the S@#t out of the map with darts it is moronic. Apparently you have no concept of money as 40 dollars U.S. is water in your hands. You probably still live at home with your mama.Question..What do you do when the text refers to map location that you have destroyed with the darts?
When you pay your dues to society and live a little more out of your mothers wing then tell me 40 dollars is nothing. Having to pay bills , a morgage, repairs for a vehicle and children, 40 dollars U.S. which I might add is close to 60 dollars Canadian, helps feed and cloth my family. So when I endulge myself and buy I product in the sacrifice of my 40 dollars for a good product as much as the creaters of said product should appreciate my money to pay their salaries, overhead whatever their costs.
After all they are in this business to make money.
I am sure like they said in the early part of this thread they will fix the problem with this new map after all that is good business. Unlike the Artist who was unfaithful to thier trust, they are still hear and willing to correct the problem and work with the customers.
I am sure they will review thier editting process as well to insure this never happens again. Of course people are human and mistakes are made but I am sure steps will be taken by the company.
I still look forward to further releases of Conan. I think the game has potential and hopefully the painful mistakes correct themselves and improve upon a wonderful setting that has many impassioned by it. I do spend what money I have and can afford on these products and have faith they will continue.
Go Mongoose go ..
Live , Learn and go forward.[/quote]

Can be but it seems in that case that the books don't even correspond to the map.
