Writing this down so I never forget it again.
When firing at a ship with shields with multiple weapon types, the optimal sequence of fire is:
-All Slow weapons. Pray for shield crits, it makes everything else better.
-EM Pulse Guns. Set up everything that comes after.
-Blasters. All about raw damage and Burn-Out.
-Lasers. Precise weapons want bare hulls for crits.
-Slug Guns. No Burn-Out, no crit bonuses, they waste damage against any shields that are left but might get a lucky shield crit anyway for the next volley.
-Meson weapons. Better than Precise for crits, and no Burn-Out.
-Point Slug Guns. If the shields aren't down or at least flickering from a crit, find another target.
Also, if you have a Rocket/Missile/Torpedo shot that has to go through a Gatling Laser zone, try to find a better target.
Failing that, kill the Gatling ship before you start to salvo missiles at it. Sadly, you'll have to do it with raw damage - they can't be knocked out by crippling or affected by crits. Hawkwoods, hope your cruiser/dread/heavy carrier can do the job before the missile turrets on the little guys have to shoot. Al Malik, curse the game designers and try to take as many shots as you can from ships outside the gat arcs first. Maybe they'll kill it and save you the wasted ammo.
