Sentient Rabbits Gaming Society presents...

If both players play the same card, do the effects double? eg 2 hyperspace cards, 4FAP in hyperspace?!

Good question.

The answer is no, the card allows you to put up to 2FAP in hyperspace not an "additional" 2FAP in hyperspace so the effects do not stack. Likewise terrain is generated randomly once.

The way I see it working is this:

1. Both players roll initiative and the player who loses initiative indicates whether he wants to play a card (face down).

2. Other player may elect to also play a card - if the first player did not already play a card, he may do so in response, again all cards are face down and a max of 1 per side.

3. Turn cards over and resolve effects. 2 x Hyperspace and 2 x Terrain do not stack BUT 1 x Terrain and 1 x Hyperspace can occur in the same scenario.

This way, by playing cards face down, you can bluff a little too which I think will be fun. The basic idea behind this is that terrain seems to be added to every table in tourneys or not at all and it can just be luck of the draw. For example in the Fleet Admiral tournament, Reaverman's Vorlon fleet came up against the Minbari. He used the terrain on the table to best advantage (there was an asteroid field in the middle of the table) and spent some turns in there while the Minbari player waited for him to come out. By the time he did - the Minbari player simply did not do as much damage (and ship destruction) to the Vorlons as fast as they could to him resulting in a victory for Reaverman. It was a very effective tactic but I think he would have found the game far, far more difficult without that fortunate central asteroid field!

The idea is that for those who hate terrain and hyperspace they can simply take a couple of cancellation cards and not worry too much about an "unfair" scenario. Those that thrive on it however (e.g. Hyperspace for Minbari) can utilise the strengths of their fleet! Also by giving only two cards (to last 4 games) and playing face down (potentially "wasting" cards) should be interesting tactically.

There are actually some excellent Indian restaurants in Aldershot (mainly due to the small Nepalese community I think) the Bengal Lancer is a good one but a bit pricey I think. Alternatively there is AM Restaurant in town which does all you can eat Asian (Chinese and Thai I think) buffets so I'm sure that can be arranged! For those into less spicy cuisine, there is the usual assortment of chippies and pizza places including a Pizza Hut and a Burger King. All easily within walking distance from the club and, conveniently for some, the train station (which is pretty much all in town).

For those wanting pub grub - there are some ok pubs in Aldershot (general rule stay away from a pub with a military/historical/royal sounding name) and there is one of the Tom Cobleigh chain of family pubs near the Tesco which again is quite easily walkable.

Err so the short answer would be yes ;)

I think we should go for the asian buffet then... all you can eat you say, they may regret that offer. I got banned from pizza hut in ipswich for eating too much!!

Brilliant! Made me smile :)

Maybe a chance of a rematch if fate smiles on us?

Look forward to seeing you all there folks, my fleet has arrived and all is intact. All I have to do now is paint them up ready for my first game with this particular fleet combination at the tourney (as per usual for me nowadays).
