I have a fair number of games under my belt with a few different Fleet Lists, but I am having a hard time deciding. As I usually take an underdog, but do not want to be two limited, I thought I would ask the forum which ones they use and why they would recommend them.

So here goes.
I lumped the EA into one choice, so if you only play one of the three ages, I would like to know why.
I also had to combien the League lists and the Drahkand Dilgar to save space. Sorry

I voted Dilgar/Drakh, but then ... I only have two fleets, and I fly both, so the selection was easy.

I selected the Dilgar first. The simple reason was, no one else had them yet at my LGS (so, someone else got them the same day! Of course!). I remember asking my other gamers if they thought the fleet was busted. They looked at it, said they hadn't played, but it didn't look bad at all, very fair. I liked the Targrath figure in particular, so I ended up buying 'em and trying to make them work. Oh, yes .... that wasn't hard at ALL.

Drakh were second. Again, it was a unique fleet to my Local Gaming Shop. I sure didn't choose these for the minis --- pretty bad, in general --- but the challenge to me was Maximizing the GEG. It also had a completely contrasting style to the Dilgar. Dilgar are close-and-kill, direct straightforward brutality whose only complicated tactical aspects were in setting up CAF runs and making sure to deplete Interceptors before the big bolter volleys struck. Drakh are about maneouver, outsinking, and playing Defense; a completely different ethic. I wanted that, and the only other race with that going was the ISA; we already had a local specialist there (Davesaint).

Why should you consider them? Well, to do that, we need to understand them as 2nd Edition fleets, because you'll spend most of your time --- likely --- playing 2nd Edition. We don't have that yet, though, so we have to wait. But, thankfully, it's perhaps a month or two away, so the wait shouldn't be a mortal wound.*

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*n.B.: The above, of course, assumes the success of 2nd Edition. Should it prove substandard balance or mechanism or fun, I'll be happy to revist the topic, but we do not anticipate this.

I voted EA since that's what I end up usong most often but I've a large amout of most things thanks the Fleet Action stuff I've got.

Cheers
Mark

Back when the game was released I went with Minbari due to the Sharlin - my favorite from the show.

Omegas were cool too, so EA came second.

Vorlon cruisers I loved, so they came third, although I don't enjoy how they play.

pak'ma'ra' - never really saw their ships in the show, but I needed a new fleet. Fourth.

I like to play Centari most, but also play Earth, Minbari and Vorlons. However I have played with just about every fleet apart from the Shadows for some reason....

I usualy play Centauri, but have Shadows as well - gotta love them Shadows. I chose both cos I like the races rather than how they play:

Centauri - well there is always lots of discussion about "Beam teams" but they have a huge variety of ships and possible playing methods. They only have a few rubbish ships and many very good ones.........loose ship varients in 2nd Ed and the fleet design shifts away from L/R beams.

Shadows - reward a good player (like Ken!!!) and play very different to most fleets - very hit and run. Of course they look very cool but only two real ship designs (the Hunter does not exist to me) - hoping for more - but defeaning silence as 2 "new" ships are just variants.

Oh and some EA ships and some Abai, oh yeah and my converted ISA ships........ :D

Personally I consider myself to be a natural Narn, however I just don't like the way they play in ACTA :(. I feel most at home with the Centari, I like long ranges and fast moving manoverable ships, I will miss them if they become all short range. I will have to find a different race that does the long range and fast manouverable ships.... maybe the Minbari, I just hope in 2e that they have more than a handful of hulls and just a few variants, most of which just make other ships irrelevant.

I think Earth has the most rounded out fleets of all, even when they have been split into different eras, although early is a trial.

You´ll find it hard to find a player who really only plays a single fleet list... I voted League, because that´s what I´ve started ACTA with - an Abbai/Brakiri mixed fleet.

Of course, that has since then matured into a fully blown Brakiri fleet, some more Abbai ships, a Pak fleet, EA 3rd age (tends to have ships in the medium size/level category, also has all the canon ships - got to love the Omega), Shadows (hard to play but rewarding), Minbari (Sharlins! a cautios fleet, old back, fire and stay out of range of the enemy), and an upcoming ISA fleet (great if you like to outmaneuvre your opponent. And I was able to get hold of 8 Nolo´Tars, yeah! :D ).

But if you like underdogs with diversity, go for the League! Especially the Brakiri are getting a boost right now (in both strength and numbers), but the other fleets are all very unique in the way they play. And you can mix them to built a fleet to your personal taste.

Or you can really give yourself a chalenge an play Raiders, the ultimate Underdogs in this game (although they can be surprinsingly nasty)

I started with Narn, sold them and switched to Dilgar.

Got a few EA, and I will be starting a Raider fleet with 2e.

i got the Crusade Era EA fleet box and already had an omega. My biggest fleet is ISA but i also have a couple of Minbari ships and a G'Quan to be allies with the ISA but i may expand one of the in the future. May also use my nemesises to start a Black Ops fleet.

OK, the Dilgar/ Drahk are getting votes, but no explanation as to why!
Where is Hiffano when I need him!

you rang?

I actually play Narn, Brakiri, Drakh, and am dabling in EA crusade, althoguh I suspect my EA days will die with second ed now the Chronos drops to Skirmish.

I enjoy Drakh to a certain extent because of the good speed of the fleet, decent maneuvreability across the board, and beamy goodness. The GEG I don't rate as a mechanic, as it is generally the reason behind the weaker hulls, but they just make you easier to hit, and any decent weapon punches right past it! but it does mean you can generally ignore fighters, just as well having none of your own, and only 2 AF weapons in the entire fleet!.
I actually prefer Narn, a tough brutal fleet, soaking up mases of fire and refusing to die, any ship that can last 4 rounds being blasted by Vorlon heavy cruisers (sfos war level ones) is a ship to love, and love the Bin Tak I do, I would happily have the Bin Taks babies. Of course the Narn are not without issues, the G'Quan sucks for a battle level iconic ship, indeed the raid and battle level Narn are average to poor, but they have excelent Skirmishers, and arguably one of the best war ships, in fact arguably 2 of the best warships if you include the G'Vrahn, and the KaBinTak is a decent armageddon ship too.
The Brakiri are getting better, I like them for the solid avioki, and the efficient Ikorta/Brokorta, and the new ships look good and seem well statted!
I think both Brakiri and Drakh will benefit from new second ed beam mechanics, the Narn may loose out a bit, but we'll have to put our faith in the playtesters on that. but those Hull 4 ships will no longer get hit on 2's by beams, making them a whole lot more surviveable!

you can't have babies, where will the fetus gestate? you going to keep it in a box!?

the more powerful energy mines are a welcome addittion to the Narn's punch (not the party drink)

I've got six (seven if you count a mixed League fleet) to choose from, with Earth Alliance, either Early or Third Age, as my most used (and largest) fleet.

If I was taking part in a campaign or tournament I'd probably take my Brakiri (especially when my Couramai arrives  ) instead. Love the look of their designs and all those AP pulsars are lethal.

I have Centauri, ISA, Minbari, Narn and Abbai. considering a 3rd age EA fleet next (which also means i have all the major races then) and then possibly Vree.
