Second edition

Ok, well I only have one concern about this.... being a avid supporter of this series... What about the books? I mean, I have every release, and in some cases (my ex-girlfriend trying to make up with me) two copies of some of the books. What is to become of all my knowledge? Will I have to buy new and revised books for suplements....
Nobody really knows yet but the hints I gathered from the big thread in this forum a couple months back and from this year's State of Mongoose thread suggest that the revisions will be light-handed, some class tweaks were suggested and maybe integrating some errata. So your old books will probably work just fine.

Or that could just be wishful thinking on my part. We will just have to wait and see I guess.

Well, I hope the magic system gets revisited, I enjoy it, but explaining it to someone, or better yet to someone that has never played a RPG before, is a little tricky! I have guys that want to play magic users, but they say they find it a bit difficult to understand sometimes, I dunno, maybe its the people. (my test subjects)

Yeah I love the spells in Conan, I always felt you should be able to get a general idea of how powerful a combat spell is by its name - seeing something called Terrible Crushing Death and then finding out it does 1d4+1 bludgeoning damage is not cool, whereas Agonizing Doom both sound and is rather final.

Oh yeah no doubt about it! I love the magic system, Im just saying to some people ive delt with, for some reason they have a hard time understanding it. why? I dunno... So im guess maybe a simpler way of explaining it. Ankhe, Are you at the IPswitch in Augusta GA?

I prefer the magic system in Conan and Slaine to the traditional one of DnD. Spend a PP (or EP) and...BOOM!
Pretty simple. 8)
There are two few EP to my taste, unless you commit sacrifice. I would prefer something like in the Basic Role Playing Game system, i.e. with EP corresponding to Intelligence or Wisdom.

King,

A fews ago, I remember someone (I think it was Old Bear) suggesting using the magic system in Bad Axe Games "Grim Tales", saying that it worked pretty good and fit the Conan ideal of magic.

LMAO!

...or Mordenkainen's Really Bad Paper-Cut That Looks Like It Might Need A Band-Aid (1d4-4 slashing damage).

Anyone know if the 2nd Edition is going to be an attempt to bring the Conan RPG more in light with the MMO coming out in Oct?

I don't know, but such an opportunity would be stupid to pass.

I remember the thread but I never went further. I'll probably make up some home rules one day: either something like total PP = base EP + modifiers + 1/level or something like what we find in Cthulhu (because spells and spell costs are quite similar).

Here is a review: http://www.enworld.org/reviews.php?do=review&reviewid=2011465

It seems in essence very similar to OGL Ancients where you burn HP to cast spells.

Well that may be a bit of a strong statement. There could be contractual problems between the two, legitimate differences in artistic vision that doesn't translate well between the two or any number of other things.

My hopes are that the MMO is going to be well done and that both products can leverage the strengths of the IP in a way that enhance one another. Honestly the MMO screen shots are already of use to me in my tabletop game.

What does that even mean? Do you mean "more in line with"?

Just asking if 2nd edition is going to try to reflect things like the classes and magic systems in Age of Conan. In other words is it going to be an Age of Conan RPG similar to the World of Warcraft RPG. If it doesn't change the system is 2nd edition going to adopt elements of the MMO? Are they going to actively cross promote?

Ill fall on my sword if they steer one inch away from being as true as possible to Howard's vision and many other fine authors after him and try to immulate a dang video game. Now, there is a remote possibility, very remote to my mind, that the creators of the video game will try and be true to the genre but somehow I doubt it. They never do.

I read a post from Matt who told that the 2nd edition would not have many change. It shall be cleared for beginners however but the core rules should stay the same.

I appreciate your passion but knee-jerk reactions and sweeping statements are often less than useful.

I'm not saying it should or should not go this way, but if there's a 2nd edition in the works at the same time an MMO working on a release I did wonder if there was going to be any collaboration.

I don't personally see the need for it to become the MMO or vice versa but if they are working from a similar set of lore I do think there's a possible benefit to fans of either product. Table top drawing on a rich set of imagery from the game while the game can draw on the depth of knowledge of the tabletop when it comes to gaming in the environment.
