Mongoose
Hi All,

Can anyone tell me please if the 'Scouts' book gives rule for expanding planetary systems like the original Classic Traveller book did ?

Thanks...

It contains the Mainworld Cartographic System. Not the same as Classic Traveller Book 6 but does cover habital zones and planetary placement within the zones.

There is very little in Scouts about building a planetary system. Although there is a nifty little method for determining how many planets are in the Habitable Zone.

There is going to be a different book "World Builders Handbook" or whatever, that will be the definitive star system creation book for MGT.

Excellent news - do we have a release date yet for this ? I used to love doing this with older versions of Traveller.

Nothing about World Builders Handbook there.

Not to worry. It just means you're human, and thus share the same species as Einstein, Newton and, er, Britney Spears (the latter, barely).

But yeah, the system config rules in Scout are the bare bones. Expect a more detailed look in Mongoose' forthcoming World Builders' Guide.

I hope the book's author takes a good, long look at exoplanets. Some assumptions about exoplanetary systems may have to be rewritten in the light of the recent discoveries.

While the exoplanets we've found broaden the range of what's demonstrated as possible, they're also data that's skewed by our up-till-now planet finding techniques. Hot Jupiters are easy to see. That doesn't make them typical.

I'm hoping not too much weight is given to recent discoveries. It'd just make the system look dated, and quickly at that. Within the next 2-3 years we'll be getting a different, and slightly less skewed look at exoplanets.

When we can't even be sure of 10-20% of the population stars within 20Pc, we're certainly not ready to declare ourselves experts on exoplanets. ;)

My uninformed guess it that WBH will be limited by what MARC MILLER wants it to contain. I believe that we will be stuck with fixed orbits ala CT Scouts and all other versions, because Marc thinks it is good enough. I hope not, but there you go.

T5 probably has a lot in it that will distill down into the new WBH.

But, I agree that it would be nice if current ideas and knowledge were incorporated into the new book.

If not, I see a big OGL project in my future.
