S&P 47 - big time Evo News

Mongoose
well its out...
for the people that have yet to DL it, here's the main evo bit:

battlefield evolution
These issues also affect Battlefield Evolution. We already have an existing range for this game, but we have never, ever said something is ‘good enough’. If we can achieve a better game and better range of miniatures in Starship Troopers Evolution, then we will not permit Battlefield Evolution to become its red-headed stepchild (as it were). Any improvements in one game will be met with the other. We have thus decided that the new wave of Battlefield Evolution models (including the much-awaited helicopters) will also be put into a holding pattern until the production issues have been resolved properly.
This decision was a difficult one to make for a game that has already been released, but it was made easier by one other factor. Battlefield Evolution has attracted a great deal of attention, and not just within the hobby games market. We were quietly tapped on the shoulder a while ago by a company far, far larger than us. They said ‘we really like what you are doing – we think we have just the right project for you. . .’
There are many, many details that have to be worked out and they will take a little time, as is the way of these things. However, this will turn Battlefield Evolution from a good game into a fantastic game.

my two cents:

 im not too happy at this moment, ive sunk a fair bit of money and time into the game, i understand where MGP is coming from, but i really wish they just held back the entire game for another year rather than do this

kudos for them telling us thou, but hearing this 3 to 4 months ago would of saved alot of annoyance, also it means that im stuck using the same army with out any official units coming out for well, god only knows how long (suddenly i feel the pain of the SST players :P ), would it be possible for MGP to green light Hiromoon releasing the rest of the cards he has, to tire us over and keep interest up till we get something new?? Because while fan cards (Peita is a great example) are great, it lacks, for lack of a better term, rubber stamp of approval...

it also kinda kills demos (ive been demoing evo from the moment stats where put up :D ) when you tell the players that and are:

A: the best source for units is player made
B: you have no idea when\if new stuff is coming out
C: competing against warmachine\hordes\FOW\god only knows what else

on another good note, thanks for noticing the price issues and a very big a belated thank you for slightly lowering the prices over here within the 1st month of release (for a while tanks where going for $50 AUD, Infantry for $55 AUD, a space marine squad sells for $50 and a box of MI for $35  ) to a slightly better level. i was very happy to see that issue raised in the article.... particularly when you guys are competing against Dragon Armour\FOV for MBT\IFV purchases.

Its understandable but disappointing.
I guess the chances of getting new gamers to BFE in the current situation is .......hopeless?
Gotta admit it sucks for you demo'ing guys.
I'm happy to use proxies anyhow :)

Yep, VaS just became my new favorite Demo game, hehe.

I'll still get the Evo demo in here and there, but I'm really gonna have to do a song & dance for my FLGS' which just ordered a bunch of Evo stuff each.

Guess I'll have to step up and dust off my salesmanship skillz a bit for the forseeable future.

I feel your pain Chiwie. I wish I had waited now until the end of the year before getting into BEVO, but instead I promised myself it would work and wouldn’t end up a total cluster like Starship Troopers. Now, not only the indefinite holding pattern, but also being the guinea pig for Starship Troopers is giving me doubts of ever seeing those helos.

Not that Australia is a test for how well anything sells but in Sydney many stores still have stock of the old Starship Troopers game. One store was selling all the box sets for A$5 each last year and didn't sell any. They ended up giving them away free at a Con to gamers who couldn't care less. I saw two guys playing cricket with a big bug box set that ended up getting belted for six into traffic. I can't see stores like that one replacing written off stock with the same old thing just a hell of a lot more expensive (regardless of being pre-painted). I hope I'm wrong though.

I wish BEVO was Mongoose’s flagship instead of a game based on a film that ran a US$4mil loss worldwide at the box office and followed it with a straight to DVD sequel. I also wish more effort had been put into BEVO and the release schedule was planned better - everyone gets Command and Infantry one month, then Armour the next, then AT, then transports etc. - so that each faction was developed evenly and fairly and we wouldn't still be waiting for a balanced game. It then wouldn’t be such an issue being in a holding pattern because we’d have a “complete” game, instead of only some factions having Command units and IFVs and others having bugger all like it is now. I can wish all I want but it doesn't change anything, right now all I can do is wish Mongoose luck and hope they sort things out.

I can not believe that MGP repeats the SSTv1 desaster. . . hopefully BFE will NOT die off slowly now and MGP gets it right.

What was the SST v1 disaster? I don't remember there being one, except maybe with the LAMI.

Mongoose invested a lot of money in BF:Evo. Better hope it doesn't die off.

I am only VERY disappointed about how things are handeld. I still play SSTv1 and I will go on with BFE. I love both games. . . but I do not understand what MGP intentions are.

Make a good game? They have done it.
Earn money? You need to sell to make money.
Make the best mini possible? Why not go on with infantry and tanks, so that every of the four initial armies can be played? They were very fine. Everyone would gladly wait for the helis. That would make the players, the customers, happy.

SSTv1 broke its neck when we all waited on the arrival of the dropships. And after all the news that BFE would get new factions at the end of the year. And the start of SSTE in fall. Now we are sitting here waiting again. . .

My opinion: Perfectionism is a goal for itself. There will always be improvements possible, anyhow, anywhere. Better get something runnig proper, smooth, and then finetune or start something new, MGP.

The customers pay for the game. The pay gladly, when they are handeld properly.

Hmm

Pauses a moment - remembers all those concerns raised 6 months ago about releases, poorly balanced factions etc, and the chorus of "wait til......." from the faithfull. Looks like we are going to be waiting a while.

BUT

Reading between the lines, Evo is now going to be sidelined for the relaunch of SST. If there are problems with production, which is going to take priority?

Good news is it will free us from the "Mongoose Orthadoxy" and allow us to use proxies.

I wish MP would still go ahead and produce the tanks for MEA to give some balance of power to the game. However, with the news today that U.S. just sold 60 billion dollars worth of military to Saudi Arabia, maybe a modified down M1A2 would not look so out of place being on the side of MEA.
Lets hope that this production delay is short so that those of us that continue to demo BEvo games can put a positive spin on those that we hope will get buy into BEvo.

That is the spirit. If our demo guys stay positive and spin the game with a smile and eagerness rather than snark and sarcasm about delays...Evo will not dwindle as the naysayers claim.

Fans can only take away what you give them in a demo. So, keep the chins up and stay positive. Good on you.

The Saudis and Egyptians have had M1s for years so the option exists already :)

Mind you ihe new sales aren't a done deal - it appears there is some challenge being mounted in Congress, although the fact that Israel isn't opposing the deal (presumably since the see the weapons being aimed towards Iran rather than themselves) means it is unlikely to succeed

Well I'm into BF:Evo for the long haul, SST never quite captured my interest the way BFE:vo did, being prepainted helped, but not that much.

I'll be waiting when the new models finally get released, I mean, how can my SAS abseil out of a Lynx until I get a Lynx?

I seem to pick the underdogs, 2 of the 4 'red headed Step Children' are 2 of my favourite games.

Though Id love to see BFEVO do well, I suspect this will just speed up its demise. EVO's closest rival, in my eyes at least, AT-43, though having many release issues of their own, are still managing to get some new product out there each month...evo/starship troopers is a great rules set, its frustrating to see it flounder like this.....

I don't like it one bit . . . but i guess i can spend more time on scenery . . . I would like to know who is this big company tapping mongoose on the shoulders? Probably won't see any new figures till next year!! :( :( :(

There is good news to be had, in the meantime.

1. Prices are dropping on the internet and in FLGs as they try to get rid of thier stock. This means a big savings to those that want to play.

2. Repainting tanks can give you some new options. A downgraded M1A2 tank, just repaint for the MEA! Other vehicles can work to with som minor changes to the vehicle and a new card from www.evocommand.com

3. Eureka makes a range of modern minis in the Kriegspiel line that can give you some different figures, and you can add new weapons to your MP minis with the weapon ranges from TAG miniatures.

Plus there are some 1.64 scale stuff on the net you can get a decent prices if you look for them. Mainly the Corgi line of different Humvees and a Bradley, Avenger, M1A2, plus a Apache and a Little Bird. Other 1/64 or 65 helicopters are out there.

Anyone pay into a 401k plan at work? Chill out, hang in for the long haul. If your still hanging around on these forms you must like the stock you bought into. Or heck sell your stuff and go invest in some other. - Its a game, nothing more nothing less. Hang loose and don't hit the panic button. Does MGP have a history of just dropping games? Pretty much all of the rules for the game are already FREE. What do they really have to lose? - Use the minis you have and buy another games rule system...I know of several that these minis will work just fine with. Trust me...it's not really the end of the world.
