Request: Could someone detail the various fleets/ships?

Hi.

Just looking at getting a fleet for NA, but not wanting to get a fleet that I'd not like playing in a game (right now, with no group, the primary concern is aesthetics, but you never know).

I was wondering if someone could (briefly) detail the general feel of the fleets and the ships in them (eg agile and fragile, but good close-range weapons; slow, but tough and average weapons etc.). I think that such a list might be sticky-worthy to help other first-timers like myself.

(and yes, it was the news of ACTA: SFU that got me interested).

Right now be mindful most of the fleets have very ltitle flavor as most of them use the exact same types of ships which identical stats for the hull of the ship and how many weapons said hull can contain. However with the upcoming new releases of not only new fleets but specialty ships were starting to see more character added to the fleets. So with that in mind...

Hawkwood: Very solid fleet, fast maneuverability at least when talking about there non-capital ships. Primarily Lasers and missiles which have proven an effective armament. However while there small ships are fast there Capitals are very slow, super long range and pack a very hard hitting weapons package.

Hazat:
The masters of the knife fight, all the talk about them boarding is just to distract you from the rank upon rank of blasters these guys bring, if they can get into range which is hard because they are slow. There going to tear your face off.

al-Malik: Slow but very maneuverable, these guys forgo all normal weapons in favor of missiles and powerful fighters and bombers. Enemy shields are useless against these guys. Its just a pity there so slow.

Li-Halan:
Fast but not very maneuverable, they are almost exclusively laser armed which serves them well. They have the longest ranged ships in the game.

Decados: Slow and maneuverable they plod around space not in a hurry to get anywhere. But that's alright because they pack firepower, more than any other fleet they have guns and on lucky rolls can do staggering amounts of damage. However you really need to plan ahead with these guys otherwise you will never get to use those guns.

Kurgan: the new barbarians on the block. One of the first really unique fleets, they are very fighter heavy, and there ships carry Heat blasters. They are also cheaper in general than other fleets to day.

Coming soon to a planet near you....

Thanks Gopher - exactly what I was looking for.

Looks like Hawkwood for me for my first fleet... :)

Might even have to break with my usual tactics and get a cap ship or two...

There's something that just occurred to me; the Decados have a Grigori "house" ship, that happens to stick out rather oddly compared to the rest of its fleet...

...I wonder what state its medical bay is in.

:D
Excellent stuff Nerroth, very subtle. I didn't know his first name and it whizzed over my head!
