Release Dates

Mongoose
Given comments in your Blogs, perhaps its time to move the various Traveller product release dates to months that ... reflect reality.

I mean, based on the comments, it would seem that there is no chance whatsoever that Spinward Marches will be out in May, and probably not even in June, unless very very late in June.

And it seems unlikely, if I read the comments correctly, that 760 patrons will be available in May, either.

One presumes that Mercenary is, realistically, more likely to be a July release, since it isn't finished, according to your blogs, and therefore hasn't been submitted to Marc for approval.

Likewise, how realistic are the release dates for High Guard and Traders and Gunboats given the ... slippage ...

Mind you, I'm not exactly complaining ... I have pre-orders in for all except T&G ... but its a bit misleading the way things are, with 760 Patrons and Spinward Marches there on your front page, touted as May releases.

Those of us that have been playing MRQ have been getting used to this. Even worse is that after they are finaly released is that they take at least a month to get to the states.

But, so far they have produced a good product. And, inspite all of the howling, I am even happier with Mongtrav.

Indeed. I am impressed as well. Not that I'll play it unmodified, mind ... but Mongoose have done an extremely impressive job.

The best effort since the original 3LBB days, I would hazard an opinion! And better than the 3LBB!

The more I become comfortable with the MGT rule book the more I am growing to believe the same as Phil.

I have toi agree as well. Probably the best ever. Now if they would just go ahead and write it.

While I dont like major incansistancys, Traveller is big enough to ignore many of them, like how many Nerds can dance on the surface of Pixie.

I really don't mind that MoTrav is inconsistent with other editions where it is... most of those areas I see as improvements anyway. The one area I had hoped they would pull off, they fell flat: Quality control. They are making it right, at least on the deckplans issue. I'd rather see late but right than on-time and buggy, or worse, late and buggy.

Lots of little errors, tho', and I loved Draft 3's personal combat. It was F'ng awesome, except for the issue with the task mechanics. (And I feel that's fixable. Heck, we didn't really notice it until I ran the odds to refute Ty's assertions of how flawed; he was right - it was flawed - and it wasn't quite as bad as he felt due to difficulty mods applying to effect...)

But, I look forward to both the SRD and to the supplements. I've not been this happy with a traveller core rulebook since 1987. And I have always felt Mega was FAR superior to CT (except for ship design).

I did back to back tours in Germany through the 80's, so missed most of everthing after CT.And when I got back to the states, my old friends all preffered CT to the others. So I dont have a good objective view of Mega or TNE or any of those.

I like GURPS trav, I just dont like GURPS itself. But I will certainly mine the books for usefull stuff, just as I will use my old copy of spinward marches until the goose publishes thiers.

Yeah, I tend to agree. The GTrav supplements are awesome ... but GURPS doesn't do anything for me, either (even tho I get almost all of the supplements, and the core rules so they all make sense ... they're so ... so ... minable, as you say)

In the thread about Spinward Marches:

Spinward Marches is with Marc for approval, and will be going to print as soon as he gives the nod. 760 Patrons is in the latter stages of development, and will be going to print very soon!
I guess this means Spinward Marches will be out early June and 760 Patrons maybe late June. As for the others... who knows. I would appreciate some accurate release dates, as I am trying to run a new Traveller game and could use Spinward Marches for setting info, 760 Patrons for adventure stuff and Traders & Gunboats for ships.

Fellows, et al, you should just face the facts that release dates are a myth for most RPG companies these days. The best thing that Mongoose could do is not list a release date day or month. They should just list a release quarter, or season. That by itself would end a lot of the psychological frustration factor. 'Cause things are going to be late, especially if they depend on human creativity.

I just glad that Mongoose is still around, after their problems with the printers over the last few years.

So, to Alex & others at Mongoose, keep 'em coming. Take your time, & get 'em good & right!

Well for me, I got in my hands Mongoose's New version Traveller Core rules and they look pretty good. I have also pre-orderred all of the currently listed books, but I know that stuff will get to me in time. So dream on people and do the best you can until they arrive.

Hi guys,

A couple of quick points here;

1. About a year ago, we did indeed list release days rather than months - and we were able to stick to them for the vast majority of our books. The printing issues last year threw us a little out of kilter, and we are still adjusting to the new schedules that we have in place. However, we are getting closer every month and, a little later this year, we expect these delays in the printing process to be a thing of the past. Once again, if you see a book listed for a certain month, you can be sure it will appear. It will just take a little time.

2. There will be no more month-long delays in getting books to the US, as they are all now made in America. You'll be getting your books before any one else! (however, everyone else will likely see them just a week or so after the US, depending on their distributors).

Matthew,

Amazon unilaterally cancelled my preorder of "Mercenary" allegedly because they lacked a solid release date for this supplement... Any news about when to expect this book?

Amazon has always been a law unto itself. Mercenary will be going to print within the next couple of weeks.

Moral of the story: Support your local games store instead. If you can't do that (no store!), then support us :)

I always support my local store, which is why the delay has been so annoying. And it certainly isnt alwyas the Gooses fualt, the distributer has dropped the ball a time or two, but it is hard to figure out who did what.

The store owner and his crew are aware that I am a steady buyer of MRQ, and now I will add MongTrav to that list as well, so they do try to keep the new stuff in as it is a regular sale.

I order directly from Mongoose. They ship fast* and have very good (and quick-responding, too :)) customer support. Plus, the nearest gaming store is in Tel Aviv, and the round trip to there is more expensive than shipping costs from Mongoose.

*The MGT main book was at the local post office in May 5th; I got it only in May 15th because of mistakes done by the postman.

Hey I just find it easier to just order Online from Mongoose itself, and from what I have seen they seem to be pretty good with the mailing. Now I live in the US, and so it should be even better now!
