Recovering Fighters - 2nd newbie question

Hi All! In the rule book it mentions how many fighters a ship can launch and recover. I dont see any other rules that refer to why you would recover a fighter. Do they have to reload after they shoot?

Thanks!!!

Curtis

Fighters do not have to reload and most of the time you will not recover fighters. However, in campaigns if you want your ship to withdraw it is best to recover the fighters, so that you do not have to pay to replace them. Fighters can escort ships, but only one flight can do this at a time, so if withdrawing a ship it is best to recover the fighters first.

Drakh will rarely recover heavily damaged raiders to deny opponents the victory points for their destruction.

Brings up a question --- say a Raider takes a bad critical, like no firing (4-6) and decides to land back on a mothership. Does it still get its damage control roll? How about the next turn after that, if it doesn't launch?

I ... sorta think it would. Not sure, though.

seems it should get a roll on repair - now does it use its CQ or its mothership - using the repair facilities carrier type ships usually have - or perhaps even a bonus to the roll maybe?

have fun

Up to 4 fighter flights can escort a ship. You're thinking of the rule for escorting other fighters, in which case only one flight can escort another.

They recover at the same rate the ship can launch them (i.e. same as it's Carrier trait score or one per turn if it hasn't a Carrier score).

A ship can launch or recover one fighter, so long as it does not succesfully perform a special action. If it has the Carrier X trait it may launch or recover X number. If it performs the Scramble Sramble! special action it may launch an additional fighter.

Recovery is for withdrawl, as others have said. They do not have to reload.

yes we play a campaign here and i must say recovering
is most of the time crucial for me.

When i fight narn i drop out the fighters, only to recover them
when the Emine-Ships come about to kill them easily.

In one-off games it would be of no real use to recover fighters i agree
