Radius effect weapons and LOS

A radius of effect weapon can effect models not in the firer's LOS.

I also believe you don't have to centre your fire zone on a model.

I was wondering, therefore, if you can't see any enemies could you target a location in LOS and get the enemies in the blast zone? e.g. A tank knows that there are enemies in the woods nearby but it can't trace LOS to them. Can it target the edge of the woods and then effect hidden models within the blast radius? Such a tactic would seem to be realistic.

However, I have just noticed that it says the radius is centred on the model its damage dice is assigned to. I presume this means that the above tactic can't happen as there would, in the example above, be no model to assign the initial dice to?

Sorry if this is all a little confusing.

You are correct, you cannot do this.

Think of it this way - the tank may know the enemy is somewhere in the woods, and you may know exactly where they are. But the chances of getting anyone in the blast when effectively firing randomly into shrubbery would not be good!

Even a nice one? And not too expensive? (gotta love the Knights of Ni)

I agree, radius weapons would be way too powerful if you could effectively use them to blind-shoot around corners.

Though you could catch someone round a corner if they're within the radius of effect of someone you can see who gets the damage dice assigned to them
