Question time?

Cosmic Mongoose
I was just thinking, Obviously the second ed preview has a lot of people pondering, also their are stilll armageddon issues outstanding (kabintak, neroon, fieraptor etc) Now then,Matt doesn't have the time (i'm guessing) to read and reply to every post. What do people think about a Chat room session with Matt, and say 5 nominated people off the forum, to learn a bit more from matt, put some ideas and feedback forward and get a good feel for the current state of ACTA from both perspectives? other people could enter as "Viewers, and someone could then post the transcript for everyone to read?

I think that would be a great idea!
The 5 nominated people could take it in turns to aska question. People could submit their questions to the 5 beforehand.

or you could put a question thread up with numbered questions:
poster one might post questions 1 and 2, then next poster post question 3 etc etc.
matt can then answer if he likes and just put a number followed by answer.
that way everyone can ask the questions they want and can all see the answers.

yes, but threads get hijacked and degrade into whole new issues, and people argue it out amongst themselves.
A Chat room session, would make it more personal, and I think would be a nice touch from Matt, or a nominated game designer. I personally, think I would not be in the chat group, but I would nominate a playtester, say Greg for arguments sake, Hash, as a passionate, yet reasonable chap, perhaps a retailer/player, so wing commander, or the other chap i forget who it is though, maybe an ex poster dragged back, such as Nomad and A.N other. Alex B is quite vocal. they can field some questions from the rest of us, then have the chat.

It also means that some questions that always tend to get ignored on the board will get an answer of sorts, which again is good for mongoose overall, showing a more open approach :-)

katadder the problem is that the questions get answered by speculation, half-truths from playtesters and non-playtesters alike, the topic gets filled with garbage and off-topic waffling.

For example Hash's post was mainly intended to be an overview of the progress of 2e. But it got bogged down with side issues, specific new rules and rants about stealth, hull, dodge, etc. Hash's original post was never addressed.

I think it was addressed somewhat within the first few pages - it just went a bit downhill from there, as specific concerns got raised.

ok, I have E-Mailed Matt to see what he thinks. And nope, i didn't mention the drakh at all.

so you ask that no one else intrudes in the questions thread, but can make threads elsewhere about the answers given.
mods can also delete posts that dont follow the thread - it would be questions and answers only.
also making it 5 people - some people will be put out they not chosen, the 5 may forget certain questions, or think about ones after the point etc etc.
in a thread that is only for answers/questions you can take your time over the questions, if one comes up a few days later you can ask it.
i dont think it would be too much for people to leave out speculations and diverging topics out of one thread.
theres also the fact that more than 5 people will be going to the tourney on 5th May by my guess, so thats a perfect time to ask questions, during the dinner break. i think thats what we did at last ACTA tourney, and opinions by the likes of triggy and myself vocalised during that session i think helped to get us asked to be playtesters.
then you could come back and type all the answers up.

just once could you not argue about something? It was just an idea, a publicity stunt even for mongoose. you may not have noticed, but not everyone goes to mongoose towers either, then those people may feel upset they didn't get to ask the questions as well.

well I would say 3 of the 5 you put foreward are likely to be there anyway.
plus not arguing, just suggesting a differant method of doing it, which if everyone else didnt post anything but questions would work just as well IMO.

sure, but the actual 5 would really need to be agreed buy more than just me, I may of course be deemed to have Bias towards certain people, or against others. I just picked 5 names who I thought would be pretty decent for it. If we could get a small group as an acta union ;-) to all go to mongoose to chat with matt that would work too.

P.S. nick me the master of the mothership if it's there!

Since when would that work?

Since when would that happen? Mod presence here is minimal to non-existant.

Well we, the forum public, can nominate the 5. The 5 can write down the questions so they don't forget them. Wonderful invention, the pen and paper!

Yes it would, people like to post here, almost every thread gets filled with discussion about things totally unconnected to the OP.

If someone would do that then it'd be cool. So where are the answers to the questions you and Triggy asked???

well am sure most the stuff we talked about got posted back then :)
stuff like 4+ to hit beams, the nemesis going only to psi-corps lists etc etc, its all around somewhere.

I still think a web/IRC chat would be a great idea, for those who are not able to attend the open day to get their questions answered. It would only take an hour of Matt's time.

PS you've spelled opinions wrong in your sig, twice ;)

:D nice opi... well .... way of thinking ;-)

Well that is quite true for the spelling but as a non native speaker I would rather see some mistakes of spelling (first one to do some) and less abreviations as they're not always "obvious".

To be fair, LBH does live on here. If I didn't know better I'd think he was a ghost that solely haunted the boards.
