Mongoose
On Sunday, I posted that I was selling my MI on eBay, with the item numbers listed (not linked). It was apparently deleted yesterday, yet there are two other threads by forum members announcing the sale of their SST items.

Are these types of posts not permitted? If not, then why are others allowed to do what I am not allowed to do? If they are allowed, why was my post deleted?

Not angry, just wondering at the apparent selectivity of the thread deletions.

:?:

I asked exactly the same question when my BFEvo thread was deleted.

Yet even a casual glance at the ACTA forum reveals several such threads over recent weeks, none of which were removed

Mongoose have royally peed me off with the inconsistency on this as well as the lack of clear rules

If there was a clear set of rules prominently displayed as a sticky or such then this confusion wouldn't arise

The number of people asking us to delete selling threads outnumbers those actually selling, and it seems a reasonable enough request. Sellers already have eBay, they don't need these forums as well.

Nah well if it would be MY company I would be thinking twice too when I saw the forum for my soon to come out a new prestige game and every second topic says "I'm selling my stuff"

but nah I'm pretty sure it's just a moderation issue causing some inconsistency with the rules, mongoose don't have a habit of censorship or something.

That's fine, but why are there still other threads that offer items for sale? I count at least three others on the first page of this particular forum that have not been deleted. If you have a policy of "no 'for sale' posts", please be consistent - not selective - in applying it.

 huh?

Im pretty sure I at least would like to know when theres SST stuff for sale at a cheap rate! :D

Maybe listing everything and its price is a bit much, but providing contact details, or a link to ebay isn't that bad!
(Especially since theres more life in a tramps vest than here most days...)

EXACTLY! thanks KJ

So if someone asks if they can post a link to ebay auctions, do we tell them it is allowed, but other forum members may complain and have it deleted? :?

A general policy on such threads should be enacted to avoid the partial deletings - either all should be deleted, or none should be. Maybe limit such advertising to people's sigs? I moderate a comics forum, and we used to run a marketplace subforum, but various problems with people scamming others led us to shut it down. That said we do allow ebay auctions to be advertised, but only in people's sigs.

One way or another, a consistent policy is always better.

Then it would be a good idea to setup a watch on your ebay account to have it emailed regularly. :D
