Proposal: The Blue Star (Skirmish)

I think that is a great compromise. Wheres Triggy when we need him?

CBD must half AD, then the White Star can be left alone, as doing it always cuts our AD, which it should. White Stars are then encouraged to run up and dogfight like they should, and not sit at 18 taking pot shots like a Narn.

Maybe that is where my frustration comes from, even when not tactically sound, I run my White Stars up and fight with them like they should be used, how they are seen in the show, and I lose a lot. A LOT.

Maybe if I tried to abuse the ship, I'd see it differently. I feel enlightened *hovers above the ground*

Sorry.. this sent me rolling on the floor laughing. In a good, delighted way :P Your voice for the WS is already well apparent. Learning that you play them like they 'should' is amusing because, I agree, if they were played like they should be, diving down into the heat of things, sent right down an opponents throat, I don't think you would see so much annoyance with the WS. But there are people that instead take advantage of the system, using the WSs speed and manuverability and F arc beam to sit back at 18 in, CBD and weather the storm with impunity while they lay down beam damage. CBD + Dodge + AA + self repair = more so when you can't bring your main guns to bear

Its good to know that you play the white star as seen on the show :) I have great respect for a player that is willing to send his ships into the fire because thats how they should fight!

Yeah I know what you mean - I love charging in and shooting - with the Centauri thats usually fine 8) - Shadows less so ...............

CBD and get an additional 5+ save per point of damage, on top of a 4+ save from Dodge, and an overall halved damage that gets through (rounded down).

now this - with quite often a fighter acting as an interceptor(often a allied one) is exactly why some people consider the White Star broken.
:)

It is however hardly exclusive to the Whitestar; many other ships can layer defences in such a manner (substitute Stealth which is at least as strong of a defence for Minbari and sneaky ships)
so why is it considered a WS exclusive problem? Especially when more and more weapons can ignore said defences (e.g. E-mines ignore interceptor and dodge layers)

FWIW I play the whitestar as a knife fighter, not a sniper (not strictly because of the show, just because they "feel" like knife fighters to me...oh yes, and I'm an impatient barbarian at heart)

Not everyone does that though they come to just in 18" and hit you with CBD AA DODGE and some times interceptors on top of that.

And all your doing is making a multitude of Dice rolls that slow the game down. and then it results in a big nothing cuz its all halfed at the end.

Yeah... getting 1 dmg 1 crew in and then seeing it self repaired is very :?

I don't even bother keeping track of the damage it's all down to the crew. I think the Psi Corp should clone it's crew to get the drop on those ISA. *evil grin* self repair and cloning excellent.

We aren't getting new models, and as I stated above, I don't see the logic in the ISA fielding really old ships as part of their White Star Fleet. In use, like a Civilian ship can be for the others, but no, not part of an assault fleet.

Per Legend of the Rangers, they still are using some.....

As was stated just a few moments ago in the White Star thread, the Nolo'Tar and the Liandra were used as transports, not warships. The Earth Fleet has civilian craft, and I see the Nolo'tar being more in line with the Civilian fleet used by the Rangers, and less part of their Strike Force.

No one else uses generic transports in their fleet lists, we shouldn't have to either.

Additionally, had Legends of the Rangers been a better movie, and not has so many problems (floating gunner? WTF?), then Babylon 5 may have been more successfully relaunched into the series that movie was supposed to have started... so do you really want to use the flagship of a movie that put another nail in the Babylon 5 franchise?

David: "Is that the Liandra? I can't believe shes still flying."

Sarah: "Word is her last crew died on board."

So this is a craft that even the Rangers are weary of.

David: "Not... not the Liandra. The ship that..."

G'Kar: "The ship that went missing for a week whose crew was killed, the ship everybody says is cursed? That Liandra you ask? Yes, that Liandra."

David: "I'll take it."

Even the silly summersaulting (go rewatch the movie) David the Ranger only takes the thing because he has no other choice. You're told the Liandra is only 20 years old during the first conversation on the ship, and half of her systems didn't function when she was first re-activated after repairs.

I'm supposed to WANT to take that thing into space?

From Wikipedia: "In the year 2265, David Martel (Dylan Neal), a Ranger, is given the command of a twenty-year-old Ranger starship, the Liandra, and is asked to escort a Valen-class cruiser to a secret location carrying several diplomats, including Ambassador G'Kar (Andreas Katsulas). However, upon arrival, the two craft are attacked on behalf of an unknown, mysterious, and ancient force known only as The Hand whose lethal power is far greater than any previously known to Earth or any other world in the Interstellar Alliance."

The game has it listed as coming into service in 1228, where the movie indicates it is only 20 years old. If it is unique, that is THE Liandra, not some other version of that hull, so she would be 2245.

According to the movie the Narn and the Drazi were recent additions to the Interstellar Alliance, I find that silly as the Narn were founding members, and part of the force that protected Babylon 5 from the home guard coup attempts. Again, that movie isn't what I would call... a good source of fluff =)

Wasn't Marcus supposed to be your average Ranger, trained to be honorable and noble? In this movie Rangers act like children, show off fighting that looks like a couple of kids playing lightsaber after school, and a poorly acted cast including Malcolm Bridges who went on to be Sergeant Bates of Atlantis, who is the single greatest example of acting in a manor unbecoming of someone trained through Stargate Command. I guess I can't hold that against the movie... wait... sure I can, its the internet!

Why did we get the White Star Gunship, when we could have had whatever the Valen is?

Sorry... that movie was just... bad. The aliens were waiting for us in Hyperspace near Minbar? Are you kidding? Ok... I'm done.
