David: "Is that the Liandra? I can't believe shes still flying."
Sarah: "Word is her last crew died on board."
So this is a craft that even the Rangers are weary of.
David: "Not... not the Liandra. The ship that..."
G'Kar: "The ship that went missing for a week whose crew was killed, the ship everybody says is cursed? That Liandra you ask? Yes, that Liandra."
David: "I'll take it."
Even the silly summersaulting (go rewatch the movie) David the Ranger only takes the thing because he has no other choice. You're told the Liandra is only 20 years old during the first conversation on the ship, and half of her systems didn't function when she was first re-activated after repairs.
I'm supposed to WANT to take that thing into space?
From Wikipedia: "In the year 2265, David Martel (Dylan Neal), a Ranger, is given the command of a twenty-year-old Ranger starship, the Liandra, and is asked to escort a Valen-class cruiser to a secret location carrying several diplomats, including Ambassador G'Kar (Andreas Katsulas). However, upon arrival, the two craft are attacked on behalf of an unknown, mysterious, and ancient force known only as The Hand whose lethal power is far greater than any previously known to Earth or any other world in the Interstellar Alliance."
The game has it listed as coming into service in 1228, where the movie indicates it is only 20 years old. If it is unique, that is THE Liandra, not some other version of that hull, so she would be 2245.
According to the movie the Narn and the Drazi were recent additions to the Interstellar Alliance, I find that silly as the Narn were founding members, and part of the force that protected Babylon 5 from the home guard coup attempts. Again, that movie isn't what I would call... a good source of fluff =)
Wasn't Marcus supposed to be your average Ranger, trained to be honorable and noble? In this movie Rangers act like children, show off fighting that looks like a couple of kids playing lightsaber after school, and a poorly acted cast including Malcolm Bridges who went on to be Sergeant Bates of Atlantis, who is the single greatest example of acting in a manor unbecoming of someone trained through Stargate Command. I guess I can't hold that against the movie... wait... sure I can, its the internet!
Why did we get the White Star Gunship, when we could have had whatever the Valen is?
Sorry... that movie was just... bad. The aliens were waiting for us in Hyperspace near Minbar? Are you kidding? Ok... I'm done.
