Progress on 2e

presumably though they will remain as effective against things like civilian ships as they should destroy them with ease- also if the beams are not super AP how do they work?

The Centauri are less reliant on beams, since they never fired them in the show, and they now have ion cannons, which were mentioned in the show.

There's a number of ship details that made it into B5 canon that were caused by CGI errors (such as rear lasers on Omegas and some scale issues) and changes between original production designs and what was actually used on the show (Primus lasers and Nova plasma cannons).

Makes it a bit of a minefield deciding on what details to use. Someone's almost always going to find something they don't think is correct.

Making CAF! dependant on a CQ roll, and available to Boresight weapons (on ships that must maneuver to aim them) goes a long way to balancing the EA and Narns against, for example the Centauri. Very good idea.

I also like the proposed changes to Crusade-era EA...VCD in, Shadow clones out, Warlock right, new Skirmish - PL ship...excellent! Thanks!
New variant of the Apollo?...bonus...

It sounds as though the Centauri are the most changed race in V2? I'd hope the Vorchan/Demos type ships get a major upgrade, so we'd get to see them on the table more often.

I like the sound of the new anti-fighter rules, seemingly based on the existing Station Defence Grid rules (as someone previously noted). I've always thought that the existing AF rules made it too easy to take out fighter flights, especially now that they give 1VP each. Still don't like that particular rule.

My only fear from what we've heard of the new anti-fighter system is that it will be impotent vs bombers. Right now we see this with the vorlon system vs the T-bolts. The vorlons have not really improved their self defense against ea as they simply take all T-bolts and hang at four inches. Would prefer something that was simply less effective at range, so that as time goes on and more bombers appear, we won't recreate the optimal fighter choices again. Any time something becomes immune to something else (flights moving last always set the range) but can still effect it, you have the potential for real issues down the road. At least with things like blind arcs you have the chance to pull a come about and respond with something.

This is intentional and there to encourage the need for a fighter "screen" if you expect to face bombers! Of course some races have a tougher time of this than others and this weakness is built in to the fleets and accounted for too :)

Without sounding like a bitch-fest, can anyone explain why EA are picking up the Victory-class destroyer? Surely it was an ISA project with EA and Minbari cooperation, not an EA unit?

I like the sound of less beam-heavy Centauri, and hopefully (as stated above) the Vorchan/Demos will be more use. They're the single coolest ship in B5 as far as I'm concerned, and I do want to be able to use them without feeling like a chump... :P

It´s the Excalibur, on loan from the ISA while a cure for the Drakh plague is found. It´s a storyline thing, I guess.

Excalibur is a bit busy, though. If the Victory-class gets added to the EA fleet list they could have multiple ships of the class in large games. I'd just like an explanation for its presence on the EA list.

Yeah, and the Whitestar was a Minbari ship... that isn't a fleet option for Minbari. Since when has storyline had anything to do with it?
Yes, but the White star has been built exclusively for the Rangers, who were later turned into the ISA police force. Half of their crew ARE Minbari. And we never see White Stars as part of any Minbari fleet (even old patrol craft like the Enfili or the Liandra have been handed over to the Rangers).

Back to the Excalibur: Strictly speaking, there could always be only one Victory destroyer in any given game, at least during the Crusade-series timeline. If you really plan to have a canon-heavy game, you could either houserule the ship out of the EA list, o limit it to one ship.

Well, maybe it IS a way to fill the "Armageddon gap" in the EA list (why does every fleet have to have an Armageddon ship anyway?), but there is at least a good explanation for it.

The Victory-class doesn't get added to the EA fleet. The Excalibur ship does.

Look at the Movie A Call to Arms Both Victory Ships are maned with EA Crews. And You now the guys if you got a toy you never give it back.

Manned by EA because Sheridan stole them from the shipyard.

Now, see, this is what I wanted. Thanks, Greg. Dare I ask if the ISA keep the VCD as their armageddon-level choice in addition to the EA getting Excalibur?
