Progress on 2e

I was just wondering, are there any playtesters for 2e in the U.S.? If not I'd like to be one. If there are I'd like to be one anyway. :)

that brings up a good question, what is the process/ requeirnment for being a mongoose playtester. i'd definately concider it (i had a summer job at a video game quality controle company a couple years back)

the last two were chosen on the basis of partcipating in a tourney, one for winning and the other for, um, coming wherever I believe. Prior to that, I remember a post about 5 good men, but then they ignored the good bit and chose the group they did. . . ahem.... *ducks for cover*

I think that having one proofreader who's not used to the game might be useful; since this is a new version of a game that we already know there's a temptation to read what we 'know' should be there rather than any changes.
A proofreader who has no preconcieved ideas might pick up on conflicts where one bit of the rulebook has been updated but another hasn't....

Splitting up and getting a couple of pages to do between a decent number of people seems a sensible idea (as well as speeding it up and cutting down time investment for volunteers it also means that people will only be reviewing one rules section or a couple of ships - that's few enough that it's well within the bounds of possibility for people to both check grammar and notice if any part of the rule looks...odd......).

I'm happy to volunteer if you think I can help, but if a quick look back through my past posts doesn't leave you sceptical of my grammar and spelling there's no hope for you...

just grab a couple of guys off the street to do it.

so this is like the big spidery ship innit, it az big gunz and can pop a cap in da ass of any fish ship like, now wheres me wicked and pillz?

All three have won tourneys but on top of that, we all had opinions on the system and were vocal about them in person to Matt.

Matthew,

My wife has volunteered to proofread/edit the new edition for you. I didn't even need to twist her arm! :o

She is a scientist who does a lot of proofreading/editing as part of her job (papers, reports etc...) and also does some freelance editing of Australian Breastfeeding Association publications.

Four of us are tourney winners: Me, Tank, Triggy, Katadder.
Two of us did similar stuff for AoG: Shadowscout & Richard Bax.
The 'five good men' who did the playtesting on Armageddon, the Drakh, the (now defunct) tourney list were recommended by the members of this forum.

I notice that you're not volunteering to proofread, Hiffano. :)

Heh, I am happy to do so, but i do not really expect any such thing to happen.
I only really know of the 5 "good" men, and then Tank, and was it Triggy? from the last mongoose tourney.
I'd like to see Rich Bax more involved, he has done excelent work, and I think he would be a great source of inspiration to mongoose. You yourself have done many scenarios, and the others all seem well involved in Tourneys, or Campaigns in Wulfs case.
I know What a pain in the ass proofreading is from the Narn PDF I released with Morg. I am painfully aware that their are spelling mistakes in it, but I really haven't had time to go over it. Having said that, I believe all the ship stats are correct, as I poured over them repeatedly, so as to not have nials on the narn ships and suchlike :-)

I think Shadowscout was a playtester for CTA 1E too, so was I.

I've kicked some major ass in tournaments but since I was running them and playing due to an odd number of players I wasn't eligible to place so the 2nd best guys always took 1st place. I retain bragging rights though.

I'll happily volunteer to proofread as I often have to produce instruction manuals for work, the last lot I did were for the Navy.
And at the moment I have to proofread my mate wife's university Essays, so I now know more about feminist theory and psychanalysis than I ever really wanted to!

I would love to be given the chance to proof read.

As another poster said I may not have some of the qualifications that others have posted, but I have a superb eye for the little details like typos.

Besides it would give me a chance to directly affect the quality of a game I accidentally fell head-over-heels for!

I think there's only one thing to do to decide this.
We'll need everyone who wants to be a proofreader, a wrestling ring, a thousand hot chicks, and nerf guns. Last one standing wins.

Hell, I'll volunteer myself to be a proofreader, but only because I've been one of the most vocal about problems within the game over recent months, it'll give everybody a chance to bitch at me when the inevitable typos creep in lol

(Really though, I'd be a terrible choice unless you want the Drakh to have pure SAP, DD, Precise, Anti-Fighter Beams on every ship, as it SHOULD have been  )

Well I would like to add variety to the suggested offers of assistance.

As Mongoose has loads of people volunteering to proof read, I shall not bother to offer my admittedly feeble services.

Instead I would like to offer my services to Mongoose (free but for one copy of the new rules) in the role of chief piss taker of whoever volunteers to be proof reader and then misses loads of stuff.

I will start with the classic "It wasn't like this in the old days when Mongoose used to do the proof reading"

followed by "what kind of a flea brained rat stupid monkey proof read this then???"

and perhaps finish off with the purile but succinct "Blah Blah Blah you suck !!!!!"

You may ask what value this service is to Mongoose? Well i suspect there are several in Mongoose who take the brunt of our abuse who may well feel this service, I am marketing it as the "Revenge is sweet" service is well worth the asking price of one measly copy of ACTA 2e (where did the silly e come from?) which as we have ascertained above will be full of typos anyway....

What do you think Mat?
