Printing options

Banded Mongoose
I'm considering printing out a PDF copy of highguard. While I have the first run pring of the paper HG book, I finally got around to buying a few MGT PDF files recently and I decided the corrections between my newer HG PDF were enough that it was worth having it printed.

A local office supply store (Staples) can print and bind this book rather cheaply but I have a few options and I'm not sure which I should choose.

Saddle stitch is the least expensive binding but I can get wire, comb and coverbind for nearly as low a price.

Does anyone have a suggestion which I should go with?

I'm familiar with all of them to one degree or another (except for coverbind which I THINK is the plastic spine with plastic covers?) but I don't know how durable they are.

Thanks!

Wire-bound and comb-bound both have the advantage of laying flat when you open them; between the two, I've usually found that comb-binding is a little more durable, given a similar quality of materials. (My SO, who is an archival bookbinder by training, agrees with this reasoning and adds that saddle-stitch binding tends to fall apart, which is why it's such a cheap option.)

Thanks. This is what I was looking for. I went ahead and ordered comb, only to discover (after I submitted) I hadn't and I got wire by accident. In any case, It's not two staples and the price diff was about a dollar and a half.

Mucho Gracias.

I've done the staples thing a few times myself with Exalted books, through my local Staples, infact. Few notes about Staples:
  • If they have spiral bound, go for that. Its the best. Their wire bound tends to get caught.
  • Submit it through their website http://www.staplescopycenter.com. You get a discount on the printing.
  • Color cover makes almost no difference in price.
Hope this helps.

I just picked it up. It's not bad. I got it coil bound (I said wire earlier but I didn't think there was a difference). It's nice being able to lay it flat and at 8 bucks to print and bind (they talked me into covers), it's not a bad deal.

I still prefer the higher quality of the Mongoose printed stuff but It's definitely nice to be able to print up the error free copy of books I've purchased, too. Since I tend towards getting the print editions just because, I may start printing a copy of all the books that I won't have to worry about abusing. Someday, when I have money to burn.
