Prime Directive Traveller

tneva82, the best I can say is I am hoping for spring 2012. I'll have a better feel after Christmas holidays, which will be a busman's holiday for me. I'll be spending them in Amarillo, working at least 12-hour days to try to get this to a near-finished state. :) I'll get off Christmas and maybe the 24th as I hope to spend some of that day fixing some traditional goodies that the Steves and Leanna may not be familiar with.

Jean

Well to be blunt if you work on it 12 hours a day what the heck are you doing with the other 12????You could double your output by not wasting half your day no doubt doing pointless things.

Okay. Tad longer than I hoped for but then again better you spend the time you need to create good product rather than rush in half-finished product :)

Putting smileys here would have made it a joke.

Without smileys it is rude and insulting to a lady who is working very hard to get things done for us to enjoy.

If this was intended to be funny perhaps you could go back and edit it to reflect that it is not a serious comment.

Over wise would you kindly keep your rudeness to yourself in future, insulting the ADB people or for that matter the Mongoose people who are working long hours to bring us ACTA: SF is not wanted, nor I would hope, appreciated by the majority here.
.

We've already had most of this discussion at least once before. It's a shame to see the rudeness and the childish hissy fits breaking out yet again.

The fact is that Mongoose can abide by the terms of the ADB contractual position in publications and in the forums, and then we at long last get a Trek-like version of Traveller. It might not be absolutely totally perfect for each one of our individual tastes, but we do get a joining of the worlds most widely known science fiction setting, with the world's most widely known science fiction game engine. With most of the work done for us.

Or petulance carries the day, and we get nothing at all.

I for one would far rather have the PD: Traveller publication. I know I can quietly change bits of it to fit my own needs and wants and that I will be doing that because I seldom use a game without customising it. ADB have made clear enough that people can use the game to play with as they wish. The restrictions are only around publication (including forums) of material in breach of licence. Anyone with any sense or creativity can make their own game what they want it to be.

Let's just get the book published, politely.

Please folks, don't be upset on my account. I assumed I was being teased as I've found most people here to be sort of like the people in my previous gaming groups in humor. :) And that is a Good Thing.

Last year I managed to turn Federation PD20M into GURPS Federation. There were LOTS of little picky things that the GURPS style manual wanted that PD20M had an entirely different way. We had some species to create that needed to NOT be munchkins that could easily go that way. On most days, I did spend from about 9-10 in the morning until about 10-11 at night working. :) We took off on the day that I arrived (Christmas) and the evening of the 31st. And I had a blast! I love work where I can see a product taking shape in front of me. I love fixing things until they are right.

:) And I know that makes me a tad peculiar, but it makes me a pretty good editor/proofreader. And I hope to bring in a good product this time -- one that you will enjoy, can fiddle with until your gaming group enjoys it, and play many times.

When I retire and move to Texas (that's going to happen in 2013), then I want to get more support up -- some sort of magazine, probably "e," that will give you places to explore, things to do, creatures to deal with, and people to encounter. Please be patient -- good things ARE coming, but I need the time to do them.

IraShaine1972, I sort of had this mental image of you as Scrooge --- a Patrick Stewart-ish look -- cracking the verbal whip, "More, more! Faster, faster! Produce 20 pages a day and you can have dry crackers and water for dinner!" :)

It was enough over the top that I did feel teased.

Still I appreciate the rescue (even if I didn't need it this time). It harkened back to a kinder, gentler time. I always appreciate knights in shining armor. :) And I may have found the names of the people I needed for the next Federation Commander scenario I am working on: "Free the Space Boars," based on a trivideo I found in "The Tapes."

(And yes, it is an Olivette Roche production! )

I'd imagine the five pre-ISC planets had wished their mining companies hadn't been quite so effective at "freeing"
the Space Boars in their space...

Update for those of you following the topic.

My "stuff" has arrived in Amarillo for the "work like crazy on PD" holiday. I'll be shipping the books I expect to need tomorrow by priority mail (as well as some things that should keep me warm -- Amarillo is going to be COLD, maybe below freezing on a regular basis!).

If I choose unwisely in my shipment, I may be popping on between December 23 (when I arrive) and January 3 (when I leave again) to ask questions. I may well ask for opinions about things or verify that I am understanding things correctly. Do remember that there are always multiple ways to skin an anejakreayfda (a small predator on a world in Kzinti space, or so I have heard) and that I may not be able to jump the way that some of you prefer.

I won't be here much between the evening of December 21 and the morning of December 23.

Quickly checking -- it appears the only significant difference between the Traveller Pocket Rulebook (MGP 3809) and the Traveller Core Rulebook (MGP 3800) is the size. Is that correct?

Yup. Both have the same TOC. Digest format is a bit of a Traveller "thing" from waaay back.

Thanks! It was late and I thought so, but wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something stupid and shipping the wrong book.

Status report: I am in Amarillo where I am working on PD20M Romulans. It is going fast and it has the benefit that the text will be cleaned up for Traveller:PD Romulans. Then I will start working on Traveller: Prime Directive. I have lots of files from Mike West and we should have a good chunk of the book done before I leave on January 3.

Will the base book be released first? Will it require the Traveller core book? How many books are planned and will there be more than just racial books at some point (adventure books, fleet books so forth)? I have always been a little disappointed by the lack of material for the PD GURPS books. Not that the books that are available aren't good it just that it would be nice if there was just more material available plain and simple.

I find that the one big thing that really attracts me to an RPG is an abundance of material to draw from. I love Traveller and have been a fan of the Star Fleet universe for many years just have never really delved into the RPG aspect simply because there was never really much put out for it.

First, I'm not sure how much of this will be stand alone. We'll have to see.

I have the generic text fairly clean for the core Rulebook, Klingons, Feds, and now Romulans. An outside writer is working on Tholians and we'll need to see more progress before I give you a date on that.

The booklet I promised you foljs is nearly done and I think I should be able to finish it today. We should be able to get it up on e23 fairly soon I hope.

I won't be able to do as much supporting material as I would like until the second half of 2013 when I retire and move to Amarillo to work. Things will speed up then.

Well I own and know the Traveller book pretty well I was just curious. Seems that you guys could put allot more PD focused material in a book without having to make space for core rules.
So we could possibly see 4 books this year? Potentially if all goes smooth?

What is the "booklet"?

The booklet is something that you folks asked for way back and it should be out within a month, if all goes smoothly. :) It's a basic history of the SFU (broad brushstrokes), some basic geography (the Lyrans are HERE, the ISC is THERE), and a quick look at the species out there that are in the universe (just a couple of lines each).

:) In fact, I'm going to go play with the booklet as soon as I finish the post here. It's so close to finished I can taste success.
