Pre-Career education and the Connections Rule

Yesterday during character creation, two characters got Event 5. So they thought, let's make a connection - we both partied at college together!

But the connections rule states:
During Traveller creation, ...

If an event can be linked between two Travellers in this way, then you both get one extra skill roll from your current careers.

Pre-career education has no skill rolls, so clarification is needed what to do in that case.

I just ran into this too, it could do with an official answer, but in the interim either allow an extra choice from the list or roll on the table of the career your expecting to enter?

Or just assume that any connections at University just give you Carouse :D

There are skills listed for pre-career education though - the background skills. Carouse seems the obvious choice...The question is whether you should award level 0 or 1, however. Because connections are a special case, and they won't be able to forge another connection between then later on, give it to them at Level 1.

I do think the point that there aren't skills associated with pre-career education a bit strange though - shouldn't they be able to train in specialist subjects? Maybe this ought to be looked at again.

The point is that you can pre-Career is just about any skill, so a list is not provided. You don't roll on a table you just pick a skill and off you go.

Without the Skill Table, it messes up the directions from the Connections Rule.

I agree it should be a Background Skill, but it needs to clearly say that.

I think the rule would give player skill roll on the career term which the pre-career predates. If you go university before 2nd career, roll would be on table of 2nd career tables...

Yours, Kautsu
