I was thinking of taking warhawks because of their speed and resilance and squading them in 1 or 2 squads.

I do know he has the reserves to smash something thats slower before I can make it to the other side befoe gettin wiped off the board?

Common mistake

Warbirds sound like the best bet to me. Remember the scenario is VP-based, so you only need to get half of your ships through - you can sacrifice a few to let the rest go. Might be an idea to move onto the board slowly, try to lure him forward a bit, before All Power To Enginesing across the board... just be careful of his extra long range! I wouldn't bother squadroning them, since you can't hope to actually defeat his ships. Keep them separate and try to lure him into chasing 1 or 2, while the rest sneak round the back.
