Pavis Rising

Such a great deal happens between 900 and 935 (The Closing) that trying to make all the cool and groovy things fit is an impossible task.

I set the precedent with 'Dara Happa Stirs'; things happen there that tie into 'Pavis Rises', and to have not taken advantage of that relationship would have been to deny lots of things that make Pavis the place it is.

Dara Happa Stirs sounds like a pivotal campaign. Is there a chance that Dara Happa Stirs will be reissued in RuneQuest II form?
I almost bought Dara Happa Stirs, but by the time I was ready to commit to the purchase, RuneQuest 2 came out.
I suppose I could purchase Dara Happa cheap, although it's not listed on the "Sale: Out of Print" page.

I hope it won't become a new affair like the first Conan RPG Campaign (which was delayed several times until it was finally cancelled).

What's happened is this...

1. We've been extremely rigorous on proofing and error checking.
2. We've been rigorous on producing maps.
3. I've added some additional material last minute (so this last hold-up is down to me).

Will it be delayed and then cancelled? Not a chance.

Yes, it is a pivotal campaign. And yes, it is worth picking up. I'm not intending to retcon it to RQII; we have to keep moving onwards, but, really, converting between RQI and RQII isn't that difficult and you'll find in 'Dara Happa Stirs' a lot of the ideas that helped shaped RQII anyway. And there's a conversion guide available to help you.

My mind is now at ease. :P
And I'm even more ready to accept the delay if you add some material.

I am also happy to accept the delay as not only is there additional material, there's also been rigorous error-checking and improved maps!

As there is a delay, Is there any word on the next in either thread of Living Glorantha adventures, as I'm going to possibly need filler until Pavis Rises actually comes out?

Looking forward to the product, and keep up the good work, Loz and everyone else.

Eagerly awaiting this one...
... I m planning a cross over campaign for my players, well not so much as a cross over as time travelling episode.
Start off play in the Third Age and get dumped out in 2nd Age Pavis via the Magical Mystery Canal :)

But I might end up having to wait till December, so the Mrs can give to me as a Christmas Present... one delay after the next :)

Can you ellaborate further on this please? I'm running a Third Age campaign in and around Pavis, and I'll also try to do some time-travel when "Pavis Rises" gets published, so I'm very interested to know what you have in mind. :P

I think it'd be great to be able to do this a bit like "The Day of the Tentacle" videogame, with past events (triggered by the PCs in the 2nd Age) having an effect on the present (Third Age), but time travel is difficult to manage in this way in RPGs...

Basic part of the campaign to kick off, is to act as assistance to a Lankhor Mhy priest uncovering the Rubbles secrets, with both the Pavis City Priesthood and Lunars as antagonists. The priesthood want to keep the lid on what they consider their cult secrets (and dirty washing). Lunars just want to maintain order and have a tidy sum in bribes to boot.

Aside the 'Measure' the players will uncover the Braid and Rose society, another branch of the Pavic cult that have their own agenda, following the trail of B&R the players discover the part they played in the fall of Pavis and also uncover a Hero-quest to open a gate into the Green Age.

The Puzzle Canal is going to be the choice of passage with the Lankhor Mhy priest attempting a 'heroquest' through it, in an attempt to enter the Green Age. The B&R have hired an BFB assassin to remove the nuisance priest with a handsome bonus for each of the players.

The usual happens, the Lunars show up at the last moment and disrupt the ceremony, which also foils the assassins attack... every one flees into the Canal, however they've activated the heroquest and after a few hours chase through the canal the players and pelorians plunge out into the River into the midst of a city wide celebration mid-fight.

The scroll the Lankhar Myh priest used to cast the ritual have been lost in the action, the initial option is have the party hunt down the scrolls author who is alive and kicking in this period.
Bewildered and confused the Pelorians offer to assist, as does the Assassin (if the party will have them)
Of course there is no Red moon, no BFG spirits, and some of the ancestors seem to be missing.

The players also have the option of exposing the Braid and Rose which was founded in the 2nd Age, possibly changing History and preventing the eventual fall to the Nomads, Chaos, and Uz.

Well thats the overview of the plan at anyrate :)

Wow Exubae, thanks a lot for that! These are good ideas and the campaign looks really exciting!

There's one little thing that I don't understand, though:

Why did the B&R have a part in the fall of Pavis?
If they belong to the Pavis cult, the shouldn't do anything against the city... What are their motives?

Be careful, the players might want to kill the Lunars now they don't have the powers of the Red Moon...! The Lunar group should either be of great help to the PCs or disappear among the crowds...

That's great! I might steal your idea for my own campaign!!! XD

In my campaign, the antagonist group of Lunars (Provincial Survey Team) includes a Lunar sorcerer that has recently got hold of some God Learnerish items to manipulate heroquests, so if they find themselves in another time, they might be able to go back to the future with these items.

Question: are there any sorcerers (not belonging to the God Learner Empire) in Pavis (during the Second Age, i.e. "Pavis Rises")?

Tanok, Labrygon...?

Labygyron is most definitely not a sorcerer... but yeah, he's there.

There are some Carmanians knocking around in Pavis, and some Esrolians may have a smattering of sorcery too. And some Fronelan refugees...

Mostly though, its God Learners.

When Pavis apothosise/goes off to where half-elves go, he leaves behind rituals in the hands of the administration and soon to be City cult, these are designed to make the city stronger and bind together its society.
The B&R are on the whole misguided individuals, they think they're doing the best for the City, However they disagree with a lot Pavis' ideas and being a xenophobic/traditionalist lot have made minor shifts in the rituals left by Pavis, these shifts are designed to strengthen the Human (re-monothetic element/Sorceror element) and weaken the cities other elements.
However for some of the members these modifications are not working effectively enough and they start side projects, taking far more drastic actions.
I've made them partners in crime with the renegade Magicians responsible for the state of the Devils Play Ground and the eventual fall from grace of Potonis.
Most of the 3rd Age content is coming Ian Thomson's P&BR companions.

The change in the rituals is having an effect, it is effectively damaging the elements of the city (walls and the defense towers) that signify both the protection and unifying element of city.
