Other Coins of the Realm

Sir Brad

Banded Mongoose
writing an adventure atm and it's hit me how do characters make minor purchases (A Beer down the Pub, tipping the kid they got to act as guide or look out ect), it occurred to me that that their had to be Coins of Lesser Value than the Crown in Sommerland, so I've cooked up the concept of Copper Pennies (and hafpence & tupance) minted by the Crown as well as Major Nobles, Guilds and Cities, a Penny is worth about one tenth of a Crown (hafpence half a penny and Tupance two pence are also in circulation). their are also Silver coins in the value of Tupance (uncomman), Quarter Crown, Thrupance (three Pennies) and Half Crown (five Pennies) in value also made by the Realm and major players.

why have I gone with Pence? well giver the pseudo Angelic nature of Soummerlund, it just worked for me as I've seen and held Pre-Decimalization Australian and British coins, I didn't go in to non decimal since I didn't wat ro go in to heavy multi base maths just so the players can buy a small beer, a rat on a stick or a toffee apple.

The previous d20 LWRPG kept the D&D currency structure, but named them Copper Pawns, Silver Plates, and Platinum Thrones

actually the Lune is the currency of much of the Stornlands and other Nael Nael-Aluvian & Aluvian nations other currincies used by thease nations are the orla worth about half a Crown and the Crown it's self, and one Crown buys about 4 Lune, then there is the Kina that is the coin of the Drakkarim that's worth about One Tenth of a Crown and also used by some Darklord City States and their associated Hordes.

the Ain, Telc and Noble are all worth about a Crown and the Ren is worth about the same as a Kina (so about a tenth of a crown).
