Nike Class Battlecruiser

Luciano and I still have to work out details but here's the latest. Since this is fan created it shouldn't be an issue with the B5 license. And edwardo, marketing it something like 'Fabalon Six' is a good idea. I just don't think I can advertise on this site...we'll have to cross that bridge when we get to it.

Thanks to friendlyfire for the engine idea. It's not exactly like the CGI., frankly I was having trouble figuring out how to recreate that part and avoid the 'hand sculpted' look. I think it turned out pretty well:

Another shot with a Chronos for size reference:

The completed mini as far as I can take it:

At this point I just need to add the turrets, prime it and paint it. However this is all contingent on what the mould-making possibilities are. That conversation on Monday.

I will give to you a score of.....

Wow that model is just too cool. When did you sign a contract with the devil for that?

Oh and where do i need to sign for getting one of those models too? I love it that you already consider making a small production run. It feels great that there might be the chance of me putting that thing on the table. If you ever visit Heidelberg, Germany you can have a row of beers ^^.

Its only sad, that a fanmade model actually looks so much better than the actual ship.

Will wait for more info. Best of luck for your project.

OK, if we can make the numbers work we can cast this thing. If I haven't already contacted you, please PM me if you're still interested in ordering. Price will be $25 per unit (versus the $15 I originally thought - higher price due to initial material costs to create the cast). $5 shipping on top of that. If I can garner enough interest than it's off to casting.

So that's, what, £15? Not a bad deal.

Paypal is the preferred method of payment - and I'd be happy to ship wherever as the purchaser would actually pay for shipping ($5 standard but will vary by location).

OK, my turrets finally arrived from Mongoose. Here's version 1 (everything applied with temporary putty) with what I originally envisioned. The turrets are a combination of Olympus & Warlock emplacements while the guns on the struts (also add ons) are the Nova-B turrets (the smaller ones) cut in half. 6 Olympus turrets would also line the bottom hull.

Hard to tell without painting it but the completed version looks turret heavy to me. So I took off the turrets on the main hull and near the engines. I think this looks better but input is appreciated:

Finally I'd ordered a number of Poseidon turrets intending to use them on the sides near the 'wings'. However the turrets are too large for this so that idea is out. Instead I removed the Nova-B guns off of the struts and replaced them with the Poseidon turrets. I think this version works quite well:

Ultimately people who buy the model can decide for themselves what details they'd like to put where. I'll probably include enough options for numerous variations. The struts will be molded and will be something you can glue onto the model.

Lastly, I've been working with the original designer of the Nike (what I call the Orion). If/when sales ever exceed 60, then we'll have to work something out. However, my minimum production run is 50 and 20 are on preorder. Currently the wife and I are trying to buy a house so expendable income (for things like gaming, mould-making) are taking a back seat...any additional preorders would be greatly appreciated as this will mitigate risk when it comes to my initial investment. Please PM me if interested. In the meantime, I'll continue gathering orders...and see if I can scratch together that initial start up cost.

I like the smaller turrets (I've always thought the laser pulse arrays looked oversize, and the warlock doesn't use them but has the stats, so small is fine with me)
While turrete may not be the answer, there's still a big swath of "plain" hull along the front and middle upper surface. Eh, maybe I'll kitbash some stuff if/(when!) I get a model in my hands.

Maybe a single line of turrets instead of pairs.

I dunno, just throwing ideas out there. I like what you've done, though - much more initiative than I would have!!

Great work here, very nice. Just curious, when you took it off to get molds made, did you happen to find out if it would be producable in one solid piece? I am just wondering, because I had a tad bit of trouble figuring it out(I am an amature modlmaker myself(and I happen to have aspirations to MIT(for other stuff) )

Also, just curious, but how did you go about finding a professional mold maker? I have some stuff here that I can't cast myself(way too complex and small for me to create my own molds without spending a small fortune), and am just curious how I can find one in my area.

And as for copyright laws and the like, Mongoose can't do anything to you if you say that it was intended for another system(like 'fabalon six'). THat is how I avoid any copyright issues with GW, as I am working on my own wargames atm, and can easily just say that it was intended for use with my system, any similarities between my stuff and there's/ any chances of it being used in their system is purely coincidental.

If you are goiin to cast them, I will certanly take one (probably order it along with Aldades, since we know each other)

And I think it's a good idea to led people decide wich guns they stick on it, of course If you do this, you'll need to deliver the optional weapons too...

And, If you are planning to create even more ships of this quality for EA, I will certanly be interested to buy on or more 8)

I liked the turrets furthest out on the first picture. Maybe have just a couple of turrets at the beginning of the slope (top and bottom). Keep the rear ones as well and not quite so turret heavy. I don't like the side guns as much as the wing turrets, but all those positions are pretty nice.

I'm not an expert in the field by any means. The person I'm working with recommended going with a top and bottom segment. Makes sense since most other minis I've seen are built this way. I couldn't say why it can't be built in one piece...air bubbles? Material strength issues? Someone with more expertise will have to chime in there.

Actually it's a friend of a friend. Timeslip - a member of this forum - does some business dealing with models (timeslipcreations.com) and he's putting me in touch with someone he contracts out to...perhaps PM timeslip and he can help you out.

Since the design was created and copyrighted by someone else out there it lies outside of the license currently held by Mongoose. And I have an arrangement with the designer. However I can see Mongoose having a problem with my advertising on their site...my guess is it's such a small-potatoes no threat project that it's a non-issue. Seriously, I don't know if I'll make my 35 preorder number (unless I can find a private investor somewhere - anyone have about $800 they'd like to invest? I can promise a decent return on your investment over 'X' amount of time along with some free minis :) ).

Yeah I go back and forth on the positioning of turret emplacements. Thing is the mini never looks its best until painted...and I won't be able to experiment on the prototype.
