Newbie Blog - Tale of a new Gamer to B5 - ACTA

Will the engines remain black, or are you going to paint them with a metallic colour?

Oh, and to show you which globes I meant:

orbitkampf.jpg

The stem of the planet is part of the globe (just glued to a plastic base); mine were white before I painted them... I guess you should be avble to find something at least pretty similar to this.

Nice Omega fluffy05 - like the decal application too. You could name it the "Bluedevil" with the colors and gothic looking number decal.

Are you planning on adding antannae to the front of it? I find it gives it that extra level of detail and really finishes the Omega.

What color will you paint the accompanying fighters? I imagine they'd look really good in your blue color scheme.

The planets are nice too.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the compliments.

@ Musteatbrains - I will keep the engines black. I only have GW paints for now and don't really want to give them a metallic finish as it won't look right (in my mind anyway)

I really like the planet - looks awesome. I will keep and eye out to see if they have similar prduct here in Australia

@ Ripple & Chernobyl - Thanks :D

@ Prelude_to_war - I like "Blue Devil" - I might call it something else if I roll heaps of bad dice :?

I would like to add extra antenna but I need to replace the drill bit on my pin vice - I was basing anothe model with sandstone and it really blunted the drill bit (looks awesome though)

I will be keeping the same colour scheme througout the Fleet just to make it look coherant. I will get more minis in about 2 weeks so will keep posting as I go.

I wish it would look awesome; on the other hand I have the excuse that it had to be finished for a demo day, and I started late the night before... but it looks well enough on the gaming table; so I´m satisfied!

For a "rush" job it looks great!

My LGS got stuffed around by the stockist and I was sent SFOS instead of the Revised Edition Starter set. (I picked up SFOS anyway at a good discount and I figured I'll want it down the track).

I'm pretty happy with SFOS so far but won't be getting into any advanced rules until I get a few basic games in to learn the games mechanics.

I should get ACTA in a few days though. I will also be ordering a few more ships soon. In particular I was thinking of getting the EA reinforcements box to build up a raid fleet with my Omega.

We shall see.

Happy Gamin All!

fluffy, you may want to to check out the new EA boxes that are coming for release soon; they'll make more sense with the new EA fleet breakdown into 3 time periods.

Atually I like the look of the 3 era boxes alot. After reading a SFOS and a few battle reports the fleet profiles make more sense to me now. I just don't know if I want to wait until december to get the 3 era boxes.

Basically I am starting EA and will collect anothe 5 point raid fleet and maybe a third and build them up to higher PL. I was thinking maybe Centauri, Narn, Minbari, or Vorlons

I like how you did the base of your Omega. From all the pics I've seen, that is the first time I have actually seen something other than a clear or flat black base. Very nice and thanks... I'll be stealing...er.... I mean... um... borrowing your idea.

I am glad you like it :D

For the record I "borrowed" the idea too  :

Thanks for the link Fluffy05. I have not come across that person's site before. damn fine paint jobs.

No Problems. Agis updates his site every week with something new. (He has also painted some minis to use with Victory at Sea).

I just couldn't take credit for his idea - Don't mind borrowing other painters ideas though

Just a small update today.

I received my ACTA - Revised edition boxed set yesterday.

Thanks to all the more experienced players who help with some of my questions before I bought the set.

The revised set has a Rule book and a Fleet List book (I now have SFOS so don't really need this) and a bucket load of counters.

I have played a couple of quick games against myself to try to get the rules down pat before I get a few mates involved.

Things I have learned are Beam Weapons are nasty. Interceptors can be a royal pain in the  . I think it is better to fire multiple ships at one target to wear down an oponents interceptors and start doing damage.

Criticals can be very nasty but overall I am very happy with the game mechanics and contents of the box.

My next step is to get some interest from mates at the local gaming store and my regular gaming buddies.

I have a Nova on Order through Bunker Boi - should get hear toomorrow - (Love all those guns!)

I also had some store credit at my LGS so ordered 2 Sag's, One Warlock and a box of Chronos.

I am looking at getting the Earth Reinforcement boxed set from Bunker Boi soon to round out a starting fleet for EA and then I will pick another race to get as well.

I love the look of the Vorlons but will probably stick with Minbari, Narn or Centauri to have more choices.

Got to run for now.

Happy Gaming!

With the Armageddon lists, Sag's are Early EA, Nova is Early or 3rd Age, Warlock is 3rd Age or Crusade and Chronos is Crusade only. So you've got a nice mix of all 3 eras, and not one solid fleet :?

Well. He can always play with tournament list meanwhile. It's not like Mongoose is coming to his doorstep punishing him for crime of playing with old list

Of course, just pointing out what will happen if he gets Armageddon, or wants to play in any tournaments which use Armageddon rules.

I know it doesn't make a fleet. I am just picking up a few ships I really want to paint and model before making the fleet lists for each age. I will start Early EA and work up. I will be getting Armageddeon rules later.

Hi All,

Time for another update with a few pictures.

I received my EA Nova from Bunker Boi - I love getting a model within 1-2 days :D

The Nova comes in a small box. The hull is one piece and there are 18 Turrets to glue on (I just finished). Sounds like a pain but it will be worth it for all the evil fire power up close

First picture is the Assembled EA Nova:

The second image is to show the way I am using nails as posts with the bases - not rocket sience I know but I think they will be better than Brass Rod and will probably be less prone to bending not to mention cheaper

This photo shows the underside of the base with the nail head sitting flush with the base. I used a drill bit the same size as the Nails head to countersink the base.

Also:

I have just ordered the EA Fleet Reinforcement box. It seems to have a nice mix of earlier EA ships to compliment what I have already to build a 5 point Raid fleet.

So I will have:

1 Omega Destroyer
1 Nova
1 Avenger
2 Oracles
18 Thunderbolts
2 Hermes
2 Olympus

I figure this is a reasonable start:

On Order I also have:

2 Sagitarius
1 Warlock - For later fleets - And because I can :D
4 Chronos- For later fleets - Good little workhorse? - maybe carrier or Nova protection?

**** Edit**** - Nova is now undercoated - Pictures to follow soon

Hi All,

Just a quick WIP photo of my EA Nova. I should have it finished toomorrow.

Paints used:

Undercoated - Chaos Black - Spray from GW
Drybrush - GW - Codex Grey
Drybrush - GW - Fortress Grey

Blue Areas have been basecoated with - GW - Regal Blue

I will highlight the blue with - GW - Enchanted Blue

Then I have to work on the base.

Here is the WIP so far:
