New to the sector

Mongoose
Hi all,

I'm new to the sector, having recently been indulging in a wallow of nostalgia with a pile of Dredd Complete Case Files.

Still debating which system I want to go with for my gaming needs - GOMC1 or the RPG (or even kick it really old school with the GW rules), but thought I'd just ask a quick question before I start laying out money.

I'm assuming the Mongoose figures are scale-compatible with the Wargames Foundry Dredd offerings. Am I right to do so?

Thanks!

Depends what you are looking for. I don't have the new RPG, but I do have the old GW RPG. Its a great system, but assumes you are running a single Judge. GOMC-1 has you controlling an entire criminal gang (with occasional raids by the Judges) . Its a skirmish wargame, but I find that a lot of roleplaying tends to happen naturally after a game or two. Its also fairly quick playing - I don't have time for RPGs nowadays, so GOMC-1 has a much better chance of actually getting played.

I don't have any Foundry stuff, so can't comment, but the GOMC-1 minis are a bit on the big side (30 or 32mm scale). However, I do mix mine with 25mm and 28mm figs from other ranges, and they look fine together. In real life I know people who are 5' and 6'8'', so I don't expect every one of my figures to be the same size :-)

Cheers,

Steve

re Foundry: most of the Mongoose figures are quite compatible, others look a little on the small side... all of my judges are Foundry figures following some lucky breaks on eBay, but are about 32mm to be honest... I use the ape gang which doesn't matter size wise, human gang and citidef are from East Riding Miniatures which are about 30mm and specialists from Mongoose where the blitzer, batter, surfer, jimp and assasin off the top of my head are fine (the superhero doesn't look too super against the meat mountains that are the Foundry judges though)

ooo and an added bonus for using the foundry judges is that same sculptor did the Heroclix judge dredd so there is a plentiful supply of cheap plastic judges out there for conversions or just bulking out your force....

Thanks for the comments.

I like the look of some of those East Riding minis too: the Corporate Wars Interpol figures look like they might make good base material for converting into Sov-judges!
