New race for Call to Arms

I'd like to see the extra dimensional aliens from thirdspace released as a race for call to arms. The raider sized ships were really nice in the film, not to mention the bigger thing which was on its way through the Vorlon's portal when it was nuked by Sheridan.
Thoughts?

If the third age aliens gave the vorlons problems, then the younger races would probably get wiped out, but nothing is stopping you from making your own.

I did try some rules at one point but never got very far with them...

The gunships, at least, need not be too bad; you get a strong impression from Thirdspace's battle scene that they're about on a par with a White Star.

The Capital Ship, on the other hand, is......um......bigger.

as cool as they are, they're simply not in the b5 universe enough to warrant having a fleet list done, in my opinion. they were around for one fight and then the way to where they came from was destroyed.

true but the diligar arent seen at all, just mentioned, bu at least they affected lots of things. are these third age things mentioned in anything other than the film?

Would make a nice scenario book type thing...couple scenarios, like when the vorlons first meet them...maybe a meeting with the other ancients or something...the 3rd age battle...

Bit like Earth Minbari War, lots of ships which don't appear elsewhere, but can be used for a few scenarios. Kinda like the ancients now.

Most of the Ancients only turn up in one episode to battle with the vorlons, shadows and Army of light, so the fact that they are limitted to just one episode shouldn't preclude them from having a fleet list.

The game balance arguement just doesn't hold weight sorry. But Shadows and Vorlons, and even Minbari wipe the floor with whomever they face on screen yet are in the game.

The Dilgar were boosted up to a level where the fact that their ships should all be out of date and outclassed doesn't really matter. They are a fleet from history and yet when they were released Matt posted something to the effect that they were playable against all the current fleets on the basis of what woud be the point of releaseing a fleet that was so restricted in its use and playability otherwise.

So for those reasons, and the fact that the 3rd space aliens are cool looking ships and surely even momgoose couldn't screw up the sculpts, they get my vote for a new race in ACTA

Not disagreeing that play balance could be achieved...but...

The third space aliens were supposedly too tough for the vorlons. We are already having some issues with folks not being happy that the vorlons have ships too 'weak' to be vorlons. If we were to just say that every race will play at every level with multiple ships (this doesn't work well as a duel game) we could do it, but the 'semi' accurate style we use now wouldn't accommodate them well, as they have to start at battle at the earliest. Still could work, but I wouldn't say it doesn't hold any water.

as to sculpts, actually kind of difficult to do...lots of sticks and the round thing in the center that doesn't really touch the sides much...not so easy. Still love to see an attempt though.

Wow! Lots of replies, and interesting to hear what you guys think.
My own thoughts are that the 3rd space aliens wouldnt necessarily be too powerful for the younger races, as was seen in 3rdspace the film. The whitestars (and to an extent, starfuries) were a match for their raider sized craft, and besides, if the ancients could feature in battles against the younger races, why not these gribblies?
I've no idea how hard their ships would be to model, but I trust what people say when they reckon it'd be tricky. I'm sure mongoose will think of a way though, some of the more exotic alien ships must have been hard too.
With regards to background, I think it would be pretty easy to come up with a plot device to bring them into ACTA. Sure, the vorlon's portal was destroyed, but if these beings are so advanced and can give the vorlons the heebie-jeebies, then why cant they build their own portal so they can come get us? Certainly, the fact that our galaxy is still populated suggests there may be technical reasons why the 3rdspace aliens havent done this already, but perhaps they can manage a wee visit now and then. If all those dead worlds encountered by the Excalibur are anything to go by, I reckon there's been more than one genocidal race in the galaxy besides the Shadows (or the Vorlons).
Anyway, I've had my rant :wink:
