New race for Call to Arms

if jms was dead he would be spinning so fast in his grave we could use him to generate enough electricity to power the entire planet. :(

what makes you think he wouldn't be spinning like that just looking at the game as it stands? There are enough changes in the name of game balance and alterations to ships put down to mistakes in the CGI that come down to balance as well. Plus plain business, Mongoose treat EA more favourably than any other fleet because it sells more than anything else. They have admitted that and I don';t see a problem with it but you can't do that and make changes for reasons of balance or introduce a dead fleet like the Dilgar and then say that it's all based on what is seen on screen. It patently isn't, and I don't mind that either. But that being the case, it should not be a reasonable excuse to hide behind making other changes or introducing other fleets that make guest appearances.
The shadow Hunter has actually changed fleets!!!!!

Yeah, but so did the show. It had many more types of EA ships than any other race, many more human characters and much more screen-time for the humans. It's kind of obvious really, since we are humans (well most of us...)

That particular change does make sense, since it is only seen in one episode of Crusade, by which time all the Shadows and their ships have departed. So it can't be a standard Shadows ship, and doesn't really belong on the Shadows fleet list. It is a black op made using left-over Shadow tech.

Burger, in the Crusade episode where it's seen it is in a flash back and so the Shadow fleet was still aroiund. At least that was the official explanation on the forums when the Hunter was introduced. From my recollection of Crusade I think that's right too although having only watched it the once I could be wrong.

I don't recall it ever being linked to any particular fleet in Crusade, I think it was just referred to as alien and evil which heaviliy suggests shadows.

My problem with moving the ship is that unless I buy a Psi corps fleet i no longer get to use it as it stands unless I use it as a proxy model which I don't particularly like doing.

My EA fleet is in AOG scale rather than EA so my 6 hunters either face retirement or ebay.

Other than that, it's a simple change of fluff to suit the game and as I said before, if you can do it for that then it opens the door for all manner of changes.

Oh, yeah... it was a flashback to 9 years ago. And since Crusade is set in 2265, that'd make it 2256. I guess someone with access to the the B5 Wars fluff will have to settle this really, since JMS considered their fluff to be canon.

valid points, for me the possibility of Third Space Aliens being added just hits cringe factor nine.

Dilgar are a dead race only if you use them out of their era, must not forget that other dead race, the Markab... wonder if we will ever see any of them either.

Shadow Hunter.... meh, ugly ship lumped in with Shadows for no reason, in the unpublished Crusade episode it was EA black ops.

if they want a good race to bring in they should try the nomad raider race from Season 5 episode: "A View From The Gallery".

Well 6 hunters would make a potent fleet on their own. (I am assuming that you mean Fleet Action scale, otherwise the models are exactly the same).

I would like to see the Red Helm Race as a new fleet, with fast agile ships that have lots of forward firepower but very weak hulls.
Ok so their helmets were very 'how do we make an alien race with lots of extras and stunt men who will have no dialog on the cheap - without going down the Star Trek forehead variant path'; but they are an aggressive race into wars with lots of space combat :D

After all the Hurr ( :!: the who :?: - no not the Who, the Hurr) have a ship

With regard to the Hunter change:
Not 100% sure but I think in the commentaries on the Crusade DVD say that the ship seen was an EA shadowtech ship. This was meant to play out as after finding a cure to the Drakh plague fairly early on in the 5 year arc, the crew of the Excalibur would discover the Shadowtech black ops program and the truth behind what Gideon saw, resulting the Excalibur becoming a renegade/rogue ship in the eyes of the EA

Yes Greg sorry my EA fleet is in fleet action scale not ACTA scale. I know one fleet can face off against the other bit it isn't visually pleasing in a game, and as a house rule we alow targetting of the base rather than just the central stem which would give a huge advantage to the fleet action scale ships.

6 hunters may be a powerfull fleet but having fielded fleets of 5 primus or 5 heavy crusiers it becomes a little boring to play and frustarating to play against.

problem is you just described the Drakh. There is a real danger of races becoming too samey if you have too many

difference is the Red Helm were only shown with nimble heavy fighters and cruiser/battlecruisers.

from what i saw on the show the Drakh were into light combat vessels instead of fighters.

Cringeworthy? Why so? I mean, its all subjective anyway, but I thought the 3rdspace aliens were extremely cool, both in concept and in terms of how they looked. Certainly better than the shiny red helmets!

Okay, having watched Thirdspace last night...

Only the small Thirdspace fighters ever actually come through the portal. They look like modified Vorlon fighters, with tentacley bits at the front but metal "fins" on the back. They seem to be a bit larger than a Nial. One of them is roughly equivalent in power to a White Star, in fact one of these and a WS go 1 on 1 and both blow each other up, so I'd say they are pretty much evenly matched. That puts a Thirdspace fighter at Raid level, one fighter per flight (like Sky Serpent or WS Fighter) and 1 flight per wing.

The cruiser that tries unsuccessfully to come through, is much much bigger. I'd say at least 10x as wide, 10x as deep and 10x as long as the fighter. That puts its volume at 1,000x. Assuming its power is proportional to size, that makes it 1,000 times as powerful as a fighter... which puts it 10 Priority Levels above Raid.

I think we'd need a few more PL's to introduce the Thirdspace aliens...

A general (and unofficial) consensus seems to be that the "fighter" would work best at Raid PL (and possibly with similar style stats to a Drakh Raider rather than a Fighter) and the Capital Ship would have to come in at Armageddon PL.

Weaker versions of each of these ships for Skirmish and War are possible, then if there is the possibility of a new unit for Battle then you'd actually have a playable fleet (even if it is scenario/time specific).

however before releasing ANOTHER new race, lets damn well get everything done for the ones we have!

Nah, the Drakh players can wait a little longer...after all only a sucker would wait over a year for a new Drakh Mothership ;) (just joking!!!)

was more inrealtion to the remaining armagedon ships, now the gaim, the psi corp, Freighters and starbases for other races.
I have a mothership thank you kindly, just not quite what I was expecting ;-).... just gotta wait for my new one now!
