Mongoose News - Warriors of Antiquity from Victrix

Presumably, with them being a figures manufacturer, they'll have been holding off the release until they have figure sets ready for most of the factions. Still quite looking forward to this, though.

Reading between the lines, I'm guessing that this is still a few months away (I'm trying to not be too impatient, lol!), so I was wondering if either Matt or the chaps from Victrix might be good sports and give out a little bit more in the way of teasers? Now I wasn't at Salute when Victrix were demo'ing the game, but I'm sure anyone who saw or played it would have tons more info on game play than could be given away on here.

As a way of getting the ball rolling, I was considering a few questions:

- Would round or square bases be better, or is there no preference in the rules?
- Are there a similar variety of troop types available to each warband as there might be in an army of the same type?
- Is there are a rule requirement for figures to form into ranked units, or is it a more free-form ruleset? (I'm thinking of the difference between say, WRG/WAB Ancients and LotR, for example).

I think it might be rather good to have a little more to go on, until we can get our grubby mitts on the book itself! :D

Hey there,

We are having a meeting with the guys from Victrix next week, so hopefully much of this will be resolved. To answer your questions though...

1. Bases: No problem using round or square.

2. There are similar models. However... We have worked hard to make each army feel different on the battlefield. For example, we have not just done 'Greek City State'. Sparta is easy to separate of course, but you will find Athens and Thebes to play very differently even though they have access to many/most of the same core units.

3. It is a skirmish game but you will find units like Phalanxes will get benefits for lining up!
