Our friends at Victrix have just announced a new game to go with their Ancients range of miniatures - Warriors of Antiquity. They are running demos at Salute this coming weekend, and you can read their scoop here;

Why are we mentioning this? Well, Warriors of Antiquity is a Mongoose-designed game! If you enjoy our Judge Dredd miniatures game and fancy trying something similar but with a 300 or Spartacus-flavoured twist, this one is well worth a look as the two games have close parentage.

Warriors of Antiquity

Skirmishes in the Ancient World

Take command of your warband and lead it to glory and legend!

With a lightning fast and easy to play system, Warriors of Antiquity allows you to build a complete warband suitable for scouting out enemy armies, clashing across borders and conducting raids on farms and villages.

Warriors of Antiquity also includes a complete campaign system, so you can watch as your heroes rise in stature and warband increases in size, while each warband features specialised scenarios to reflect its own tactics and methods of waging war.

Complete warband lists are included for:

Athens
Thebes
Sparta
Persia
Macedonia
Republican Rome
Carthage
Gaul
Iberia

As well as more warbands you can download for free and many mercenaries who can be drafted in during desperate battles.

Prepare yourself for a tidal wave of heroes’ blood…

Been two months and for some reason I'm very interested in skirmish rules that could be adapted to fantasy.

How soon until release?

I take it you've no objection to me converting over some fantasy elements?

I was going to do skeleton warriors and the Hydra (and of course giant scorpions), but Age of Sigmar and it's emphasis on the player balancing the game has inspired me to try just that, starting with a better rules engine.

Well ordered Mercenary Hoplites now.

Might pick up some more stuff in town today.

Come on Matt, release the game.

Got a meeting with the Victrix boys today to discuss this and other projects!

Excellent. I take it the system will also be ok for competitive play and you'll be running a tournament a couple of months after the release date?

Very likely - looking like this will appear perhaps around October time now, but I'll keep you all posted!

Great. Could you see yourself doing a blog entry or whatever to give people an idea of how to organise their forces in a few weeks time?

I'll have stuff by then and be looking to assemble and paint it.

Come on Matt, where is it?

If you want to cash in on the Age of Sigmar effect, you've got to release it fairly soon before all the players get sucked up by other systems.

You might point out to them how well osprey have been doing with their offerings, and how stuff needs to be out while the hobby is still in flux.

You going to do some marketing push?

For the book, no, Christmas is too close - however, I have a meeting with Victrix before Christmas, so we should have some solid news for you before the holidays!
