Modern Combat, next stage?

it's been long time I ever see battlefield evolution (thanks a lot for all this months busy-ing myself with handling retail stores of GW products and PP products as well hordes of other , blahh ) :P .
Anyway, having seen mongoose publishing , it seems it's very hard to see if there is any new modern combat books, so.... when is the next modern combat rules are out?

ive introduced the bfe rules to a few players, and the feeling is WOW what a great set of rules, but the bullet stops there, with no support players just dont wish to get involved :( and i have to say i do feel the same myself.

that's because there isn't one thing that keep us hype playing modern combat. :( I'm not being pessimistic in here, what we really need is a new 'wind', perhaps like re-tweaking the old books or just add new expansion books or even better, couple of article on modern combat like battle report or modelling/painting/conversion suggestion.

For unofficial content I'd suggest taking a look at Pieta&Sgt Scream's lists at Evocommand (for MC) which add loads of new units and vehicles plus new traits to cover ERA, advanced warheads and smoke dischargers among other things (still WIP, but mostly quite usable at time of posting and very well done). The site also has info on what model and figure ranges are available that are compatible with the original Mongoose stuff, as well as other scales (20mm seems common, since they fit the vast range of 1/72 kits out there). If you're talking about the original Battlefield Evolution, I'd consider picking up Modern Combat instead.

This is an interesting comment that got me thinking. "Back in the day" wargame rule seemed to do very nicely without a continual flow of glossy supplements, upgrades (WRG Ancients notwithstanding), etc. to keep the "hype". What is it about wargamers today that (appears to) make them prone to drop a set of rules, sometimes declaring a sysem "dead" because there's not some new releases for it?

@DM
no one in this thread ever said 'dead' to a system we still love.. :) 'dead' and 'not getting hyped' are two different things (both the word and meaning). In short on this thread, my major concern that modern combat didn't get enough supplement (be it new books, articles, etc etc) to bolster their fans 'hype'.
I was so thirst for modern combat tabletop , I keep looking for rules that fit my miniature and the closest thing I ever please was modern combat rules, but the context of this modern combat rules of mongoose seems.... to be 'lack' on which I intrepet this as there will be 'expansion' :) sadly this expansion is very long to be seen anywhere... not even a hint on 4-5 months signs and portent web magz :(

in the old days, games moved along at a slower pace due to the system of information and new bits for them came out, say every few months or so in a wargames mag, but now we have this thing called the internet, a possably consistant stream of possable new articles...

why doesn't mongoose each week or 2 just produce a scenario for us to try out for fun, maybe introducing a new rule idea for that scenario or a new piece of equipment, to keep things updated and fresh.

then people would see these new and old scenarios that have been added every week or so, and go wow, i wanna try that scenario, il give bf evo a bash as its well suported... and oops MGP sells a few more copies and buzz builds... why not do an article in the monthly mag that reviews a kit in both modling, sourcing, tactics and use in a game... submit it to a wargames magazine, and every one is a winner... (mag, mgp, model producer, gamer)

imagin an article in say wargames illistrated for say a shadow modle, in the article you would have the pic of the modle, in both kit and painted, a little honest review, a few lines of facts about it, then a little article on what it can do in the game and some tactics for them, and a stat line for the modle as seen in rule book (ie no weapon rules)

mag gets a cracking article, modle producer gets a little free add, enthusiast gets a taster for the kit for thier modern games, and mgp gets a little more interest in thier system from readers.

It isnt even mentioned in S&P anymore. Seems like it's being left for dead to me, at least temporally until those new Spec Ops rules gets published and we get new official minis.... if ever!

Maybe because it cost money, is an effort and not as easily done as always thought...
8)
Each week a scenario is a big challenge, you have to balance it, you have to test it, to write it, do some photos, do the layout etc.
Maybe too much asked... 8)

I think mr.evil is right, what we need is scenario to play :) balance or not, it's not always a necessity on scenarios, it's just something to spice up the games :D

Still a lot to do...
Anyway - why not take it in your hands guys. The Logo License is there to be used!

I agree that these kinds of articles would be a good thing while still they take quite a lot of time and resources to do.

Personally I don't care much for this balancing stuff. Of course any outright ridiculous odds should be avoided but still a bit off balance games could be fun. Besides they can be a good starting point for future scenarios and inspiration for gamers to modify and play them again.

ok for me personaly id like to see things done more officialy not via a licence.

why, well continuity for a start, and a feel of officialness (is that a real a real word lol)

as said every week 2 weeks or so, a mini senario may take a week to do while a bigger senario would take 2 weeks, im thinking of games no more than say 1,000 points... that way its a gateway to all, mgp have a games club, a perfect place to get free playtesting and a huge body of ideas to tap into.

yes i could write senarios , but it would be a players senario, and to be honest i often brush of such articals (call me a snob if you like), and prefer company generated ones, after all i bought the book of MGP and have invested into a service as well as a product in my opinion, why buy a dog and bark yourself ?

the other thing is it doesnt have to be ballanced, you could have a simple 3 sides allies, deviants, and mercs (mercs can use a combination of any list but dont have acess to tanks or air power or anything with a kill value over 10 possably.) each senario has a map with sugested features, mission brief composition of how many points for each of the 3 sides and bam... end of a game people can fill out a simple form, win loose or draw... then next senario can take into acount results and slide the balance slightly in one direction or another....

thing would be to get people playing the game, the game will sell better the more people play it and are seen on the net to be playing it, when mgp produced minis, every new release of minis got us playing every few days, now i would be lucky to get a game every few months.

MGB is in a competative world, and they need to compete for our game time and money, sometimes just a good set of rules wont win the war,,, look at "the other game", its rubbish rules wise in comparison but its support makes it very popular.

all i am trying to do is put an idea forward to MGP on how they could support a great product, in a simple manner, and effectivly increase sales, and a player base long term.

I think I'm going to make my own kind of modern combat using developer packs... but it will take time as I have to take my hobby store, my family and myself :p
