Minis for WaW

Mongoose
Been looking for some miniatures to play with my World at War army. I have been using my flames of war models (specifically based for this game) but would like to get others. Has anyone use the miniatures from Valiant Miniatures? This minis look good but i wanna know if anyone else has tried them.

Here is there link if you have never seen them
http://www.valiantminiatures.com/

I tried them, like them very much and sold them immediately after realizing that they are too big for 20mm.
Valiant minis are in fact 25mm minis, so they are not fitting to 1/56 vehicles and not to 1/72 models.
:-(
The minis themselves are nice.

I have some 15mm figs by Peter Pig - good quality and very fairly priced. 15mm figs based individually work a treat with these rules. No need to change measurements scale.

That sounds cool ill have to check them out. What we do is just change the Fire Zone to 1.5 inch radius for non auto weapons and 3 inch for auto weapons it seems to work just fine.

Troll66- What do you base your minis with? Do you use standard 1" GW style bases or do you use something else?

Agis thanks for the heads up you have saved me a few bucks on minis that i can now use to buy all your new codices that you keep releasing :D

Some words on 15mm miniatures:
Battlefield Evolution: World at War was written with 28 or 20 mm miniatures in mind.
However - 15mm minis prove no problem at all since the Battlefield Evolution: World at War system is flexible enough to handle this scale.

As long as your minis are individually based you can use the Battlefield Evolution: World at War rules straight away.
We found during testing that the weapon ranges look in fact more realistic when using individually based 15mm infantry miniatures.
If you want to play with smaller tables just use centimetres instead of inches and all will be fine.
Using individually based infantry miniatures is the recommended way of playing Battlefield Evolution: World at War.

I am currently also working on some simple rules to use multibased 15 or 6mm scale minis.

I am using 1 Cent coins...
See:
Inf_US_Greatcoat.jpg

Minis are 15mm Resistant Roosters US Infantry in Greatcoats.
Back - King and Kerr multibase, front left Litko wood base, front right 1 Cent coin.
Coin works the best for me, it gives also a nice weight to the mini.

Sorry, they do not look cool to me! :x
In fact they look like a lot of work. The rim is not clean enough for my taste.

ah thats ok Agis. I glue the fig on then fill in with some filler which covers then flock etc - work really nice when done - honest! I'll post a pic sometime.

Do it! You may confince even an old snob like me...
 8)

I am a huge fan of the Valiant plastics. They are larger then the other 1/72 out there (but then lots of 1/72 models are not consistant with each other anyways) so have more detail. But are smaller and less detailed (hence quicker to paint) then 28mm. As to them next to 1/72 vehicles, they are a bit over sized but not unreasonably so. But then thats just me. My friends are less keen on them due to the fact that they had already started their forces with other 1/72s, but otherwise would have collected them.

Agis - Have you tried playing a game with multibased units? The big difference we have noticed is that your almost always gauranteed to hit the whole group or at least put them in the fire zone. What we found to work just fine was to cut the fire zones in half that seems to work.

Trust me even at 15mm watching a german Pak 40 rip through the side of a sherman is still painful.

Any heads up on the Gear Krieg rules? Also what scale are you writing the rules for(i.e. what size will the minis be for the game)

I am right at the beginning. And yes multibased units tend to draw more fire by the existing rules, but I am already working on something...
Maybe using the Hit/X trait, random hits by LZ weapons etc. We'll see.
Suppression is also an issue.
Another option would be to say that one multibased model equals one half squad, so that a normal unit is basically a platoon. I don't like that one because it forces you to have a lot of minis...

Can you be more specific: "heads up "?
Scale: The DP9 combat walker minis are 15mm (1/100). As long as you use individually based minis you can use the rules as they are.
But since I do know that many gamer have multibased (aka FoW) armies, I want to include at least the option to play the game with multibased units.

Yep, me too. The only thing I compared are the Valiant Germans (both sets) with one Revell set (I think it is the very first Revell Wehrmacht set), and they are quite similar in height, but the Valiants are a lot bulkier.
I think, that they look ok next to 1/72 vehicles, at least if you have the same bases underneath all models (which are typical GW style bases in my army) to give them the same basis.

Agis - By heads up i was looking more for any new info on the development of the rules.

What can I say? The draft is written and send to my prime proofreader and most constructive critic, the content is set, I got some art from DP9 to use and all goes as planned. :D
You will definitely get all the rules to field the walkers and the Soviet super tank that are in production by DP9 as miniatures. Maybe even the German Rocket troops and US Aerial Infantry go in.
I have even assembled a NEW very nice and hopefully productive play test group.

So a lot more rules debating is coming (multibased infantry a la FoW are a challenge), tweaking, testing and rewriting.

In between I will paint up the whole DP9 GK range and produce the quality pics that you can expect from an A.D.Publishing book!
I fully expect that the planned release in the 2nd half of 2009 will work.

I was going to post pics of my boys based on Alternative Armies's 15mm round bases. BUT there seems no way to upload pics direct from my pc! thats crummy...

I like these bases cus they are metal gices the model a little extra weight and just the right width to make for a stable base for indivdually based 'small' guys'.

cheers

Agis - although it sounds like you have a full play test group I would be more than happy to toss my hat in the ring to do some playtesting for you. Also great to hear things are moving along smoothly cant wait to try it out the rules and having walking tanks to crush those vile american pig dogs under the huge foot of socialism :)

Time to head off to DP9 site to get me some minis :D
