Mini-lasers for small aircraft

The big ABL that used to require a 747 has been minaturized to fit small aircraft. Designers at Lockheed are thinking that the C variant of the F-35 may be able to mount two lasers where the ducted fan goes. More here:

Wow! Yes, I remember the nose mounted laser on the 747. This is really an advance.

Imagine dog fighting with this? The energy state problem all but goes away for killing the opponent.
